Domain names.

Post by FiendWithoutAface »

I need to know a good company to register a domain name with. I was considering godaddy.com but I have read some pretty unfavourable reviews of them so I was hoping you guys could give me some options.

Just the domain, or web hosting as well?

I don't think there's anything wrong with GoDaddy.com. I've been using it for my site for a few years now with no problem.

Awesome customer service. Cheap hosting.

Godaddy is okay if you're not going to have anything even remotely questionable.

In that case, give Powweb a look.

I use phpwebhosting.com for hosting. I've been very happy with them. I don't have any suggestions as far as domain name registry, though. I still haven't bothered with that.

I wouldn't recommend Powweb ever since they were bought out a year or so ago. I just moved my shit away from them. My site has been extremely slow to the point where people have complained, and every time Powweb updates their package, you actually have to call support to get them to upgrade your old accounts to the current spec. Screw them.
It's thinking...

Really? I'm leaving Fuitadnet for similar reasons. Do you have any recommendations, darc?

I moved to HostGator, they seem decent, except for one little incident I had with support.

We just switched DCHelp and a lot of the other DC Evo-related stuff to site5. They seem like a great host and they offer an amazing amount of control over the server. The prices are fantastic, too.

If you need to register a domain, and you really want to go top-notch, I would recommend Network Solutions. It's expensive, but I guarantee you will never have a problem associated with your domain name. I've registered domains with a lot of Web hosts, and almost always have trouble with those domains.

Network Solutions used to be the only game in town when it came to registering domains (literally, every single domain registration had to go through them), but then they opened up the domain registry and everybody and their brother started allowing you to register domains.

Again, if you don't really care too much about the domain, or you don't think you're ever going to have to move it, then definitely go the cheap route. However, if it's a domain you plan on keeping for life, you've got to go with NetSol.
