Good turn based RPGs for GBA?
I never really bought many games for my GBA. Perhaps because I didnt like the way my afterburner mod turned out, or because I never wanted to use my NES anniversary Sp and ruin it. No matter why not, now that I have a micro, I want to invest in some good RPGs to keep me busy. I am a big fan of turn based RPGs like Dragon Warrior, final fantasy, the 7th saga, etc. Since I cant play any of my dragon warrior re releases from the GB, I was wondering what was a good GBA RPG that fits that genres bill? Right now I have golden sun, golden sun the lost age, breath of fire II, and lunar legend.
Anything else that is good that I am missing?
Thanks.

Re: Good turn based RPGs for GBA?
Final Fantasy Tactics is an obvious one. Advance Wars 2 is great fun. Very easy to get into and learn, hard to master. Though those are not really RPGs, but they are great turn based battle games.
Also on a side note, I remember you saying you were going to get a Flash Cart. If you do you can once again play your original GB games on it. All you have to do is drag and drop it onto the Flash cart and the software attaches an emulator to it so it will have save state and everything. I'm not sure if you can do GB color games on it, but still badass to be able to play GB games on Micro.

That Final Fantasy 1 + 2 cart is a great deal. You get enhanced versions of FF 1 and 2 on the same cart, it'll last you months

if you're a fan of the mother (earthbound) series, invest in mother 3 for the gba. It is a japan only title, and is in japanese, but is still worth playing, imo.

The humor is the primary reason for playing Earthbound. If you can't read what they are saying, that pretty much kills most of the humor.Smiley wrote:if you're a fan of the mother (earthbound) series, invest in mother 3 for the gba. Indeed. There is a translation project at http://mother3.fobby.net/ that is near completion, though. You also could play the unreleased Earthbound Zero for NES on PocketNES (it was released as Mother in Japan, officially translated to English by Nintendo, but never released in the US, but did leak).melancholy wrote:The humor is the primary reason for playing Earthbound. You might want to play the Gameboy Color version of Dragon Warrior III.

I never understood why Nintendo has ignored the die hard earthbound fans here in the us that want another game; surely, the one for the snes did well.

Re: Good turn based RPGs for GBA?
Thanks for the suggestions guys. It looks like I will be getting a supercard sd mini, so it looks like I will be balls deep in NES RPG's and GB, GBC RPG's. As long as this particular devkit will be compatable with my GBMicro, and compatable with pocketNES and the GB emu, Ill be set.
Also, it looks like the gamestop near me has all of these GBA rpgs for under 10 bucks used. They look pretty good from reviews and screenshots. Ill be set for a while.
Riviera: The Promised Land
Phantasy Star Collection
Shining Soul
Shining Soul 2
Sword of Mana

If you're looking for a lesser known NES RPG, go for Chronicle of Radia War (AKA Radia Senki). There's a very good english patch for it, and it has a combat system which is essentially like Legend of Zelda (2D) combat with semi-controllable allies. Great stuff.

No offense, but Sword of Mana is garbage IMO. Square-Enix hasn't made a good Mana game since Seiken Densetsu 3 on Super Famicom.arrowhead wrote: Sword of Mana
Shining Force: Resurrection of the Darkness is a good choice. It's a remake of the first Shining Force game for Genesis/Mega Drive.
Also, Tales of Phantasia is excellent.

It didn't do well; that's why they haven't done anything with Earthbound in the US since it came out.Smiley wrote:I never understood why Nintendo has ignored the die hard earthbound fans here in the us that want another game; surely, the one for the snes did well.

One of the best handheld RPGs that I've ever played. Every bit up to the standards of a Gameboy Advance game.butters wrote:You might want to play the Gameboy Color version of Dragon Warrior III.
I'd also recommend Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.

![Surprised :o](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
That's bullshit. So it doesn't play GBC games?
If you haven't beaten it, I highly recommend it. They remade DQ3 with the polish of Dragon Quest 7.

GB Micros are GBA-only. No GB or GBC games.GyroVorbis wrote:![]()
