Quarter Pounder? I want the whole damn pound!

Post by Calavera »

Double Pounder a McDonald's heart-stopper

Image
MONSTER-SIZED McDonald's hamburgers stuffed with up to eight meat patties and nine slices of cheese have been slammed as "a heart attack waiting to happen".

Some of the fast-food chains sell super-sized Quarter Pounders, which contain about 220g of fat and 11,500kJ each, on request.

The "double pounder" is the equivalent of more than three days' worth of fat for a grown man - or almost five Pizza Hut deep-pan Hawaiian pizzas or 45 Tim Tams.

At about $18, it is not listed on the menu, nor under nutritional information.

It has developed a cult following as a challenge for teenagers, after a video was posted online of a 17-year-old boy ploughing his way through the burger at a McDonald's restaurant.

Rival chain Hungry Jacks is also allowing customers to order mega-burgers under its Have It Your Way ordering system.

Nutrition Australia senior nutritionist Aloysa Hourigan described the double pounder as "obscene" and a "heart attack waiting to happen".

Why $18, wouldn't four $1 menu double cheeseburgers accomplish the same thing?

A double cheeseburger is a quarter pound right? This is a double pounder, meaning you'd need 8 double cheeseburgers.

And this is an Australian site. Australia doesn't use USD.
It's thinking...

But that would be 16 patties, I don't think that is right.

One double cheeseburger is $1, so that would be $8 for 16 patties/2 pounds.

Wow, you know when I first saw that I thought "bloody American's and their oversized meals!" then I realised it's an Australian article.
I guess that showed me.

Probably afraid to in America because somebody would eat a bunch of them and then try to sue them.

For those that know the magazine, I first read about this in Zoo. Apparently most places will do it if you ask them and apparently it's not just limited to McDonalds. Also, I didn't read the article so I dunno if that was in there or not. But it's gross, although if it weren't so bad for you I'd definitely try one.

It's probably the least fatty Pizza Hut pizza, allowing them to claim "almost 5" instead of "over 4".

Also, a double cheeseburger is not a quarter pounder. So you can't use it as a basis of comparison on price.

Well that's their pre-cooked weight as advertised by McFatass. It loses about 1/4 of that in cooking but calling it a 3/16 pounder is just awkward.

First, look at the menu. Quarter Pounder and Double Cheeseburger are two separate menu items.
Second, if a "ANSI Standard Hamburger Patty" is 0.2500 pounds, then a Double Cheeseburger would weigh in at half a pound so a Double Cheeseburger still couldn't be a Quarter Pounder.
Lastly, if the patty used to make a Quarter Pounder is the same used in regular hamburgers, then why do they also have a Double Quarter Pounder on the menu as well?

Here's an edit touche':
http://www.mcdonalds.com/app_controller ... ndex1.html

Look at the serving sizes of the relevant items.

If that's the case, then what goes in a regular hamburger/cheeseburger at McD is a substandard hamburger patty. They use two sizes, and the big ones go on a Quarter Pounder.

I believe when he says Double Cheeseburger, he's talking about the Double Quarter Pounder. Maybe he doesn't realize that there are smaller burgers...

Or did McDonalds remove it from the menu? I haven't been to McDonalds much in the last 5 years.
