Can't access 192.168.0.1
Hey, I just got a router a few days ago since I was getting high speed. I set it up before the internet was set up and was perfectly able to connect to the router through 192.168.0.1. After I got the internet set up, everytime I try to access the router settings on 192.168.0.1, all it does it search Google with the keywords "192.168.0.1". It doesn't take me to the router settings anymore and I'm not able to get in. The router isn't anything new, it's a D-Link DI-624 g/b router. I need to access the router settings because I have ports I need to forward for programs, but can't get in.
I reset the router and that fixed the problem, but then I lost all internet connectivity. I finally got the internet working again, and as you can guess it, when typing 192.168.0.1 in the browser, it searched google again.
Anyone have any ideas?

Tried in both firefox and internet explorer?
Also, click start-control panel-network connections, right click on the connection, hit status, then support to make sure you're going to the right IP.

Are you connected wirelessly, and sure you are on your own network not someone else's?

I'm directly connected, not wirelessly. I checked the IP and I'm using the right one. I haven't tested in Firefox yet though; I'll try that now.
EDIT: When trying in firefox, I got a "Connection has timed out" page..

Might be a bad router, take it back and exchange as I've never heard of such an error.
Re: Can't access 192.168.0.1
start->run->cmd and enter ipconfig. Whatever your gateway is is what the IP is you need to enter.

Checked it APE, when i enter the gateway in, it sends me to a login page for my internet provider..Not sure why.
Typing 192.168.1.1 just searches google like the other.

If it's searching Google it's a browser problem. My friend used that same router and I had to diagnose it for all sorts of crap.

Erm... are you sure you're connected to the router and not the modem? lolMattiethomas wrote:Checked it APE, when i enter the gateway in, it sends me to a login page for my internet provider..Not sure why.

Re: Can't access 192.168.0.1
That's exactly what it sounds like to me. If you are directly connected to the modem, the gateway will be the isp. It's also possible that the router is for some reason in a bridge mode (I have one or two that can do this) where it is designed to be transparent and has no http interface.|darc| wrote:Erm... are you sure you're connected to the router and not the modem? lolMattiethomas wrote:Checked it APE, when i enter the gateway in, it sends me to a login page for my internet provider..Not sure why.

Post your setup
How is everything connected (modem, router, computers)? Is it a modem with a router built in or a separate modem that has a router servicing all your computers?

Re: Can't access 192.168.0.1
Actually, I don't even use a modem. The cord from the wall goes straight to the router, then I use an ethernet cord to my PC.
I figured out though, if I go to the "Local Connection" that has internet, go to it's properties, then "Internet protocol version 4", then set the manual IP (192.168.0.1) and other settings, after doing that, the internet disconnects, but I'm able to access the router settings through 192.168.0.1 . If I choose to "Automatically obtain IP address and DNS settings" the internet comes back and I can't access the router settings anymore.
That help at all? It would be better if I could access the settings while still connected to the internet..

my experiences
I found that with my modem/router, a couple of things help. It might work for you too.
Disconnect the pc. With the pc disconnected, reset the router and let it complete the connection to your isp. Keep it disconnected for now.
Set windows to "not" connect to the modem in the router. ie don't use pppoe/dsl/cable to connect to it, just let it receive dhcp. Don't go through the network setup wizard. In the network connections window there should only be the "local area connection N" for the respective ethernet cards. Delete/uninstall everything else.
If you've done everything correctly, the connection should "not" be associated with "ppoe wan/miniport whatever" or similar devices. It should only be your ethernet card driver. Most settings can be left at defaults to receive dhcp. It might be easier to just delete all local area connections and let windows re-detect them after a reboot and change any isp-recommended settings later if this doesn't work.
Turn off your pc "at the wall" and then connect it to the router. For some reason, when I lose my connection, I have to completely turn off the power supply because the "ethernet" led keeps blinking. Once it stops blinking, I can reconnect the pc and the internet works.
