Dreamcast won't turn on...

Post by Marios_shadow »

Well, I ordered a new DC last week after my original died.
Problem is, the system won't turn on... The fan will spin, but not as fast as it would normally, and, if I have one plugged in, it'll make the rumble pack... rumble. It will do this for about two minutes and then it just stops... Any ideas as to what's wrong?

Try another website if you want Dreamcast help, maybe dreamcast-scene.com or DCHELP

It's kinda true though. Nobody here really cares about the Dreamcast anymore.

It probally is the GD-ROM board, the dc will do that when that happens. Best thing I can say is clean the board and such or replace it.

But there are people that will be able to help, if they see the thread. He only made that post a few hours after this thread was started!

Thanks, but may I ask how I would go about doing that?

Alright, if it is that (may not even be, but from my expirence it probally is). You open your dc (you can search for guides) and you will see the entire gd-rom, take it out and disassemble it and under neath the assembly you should see a board clean it with q-tips and rubbing akkahol. Put it back together blah blah blah, now if that doesn't work you need to get a new gd-rom or gd-rom board and good luck on that (might as well get a new dc)

OK, this is ridiculous. I know there are plenty of people here who couldn't care less about the latest shmup release for Dreamcast, or who think it's pointless to make petitions for Sega to bring back the Dreamcast and such. But it is ridiculous to suggest that no one here will help out with stuff like this. I read this thread as soon as it was created and I did not respond because I did not have an answer. This sounds like quite an abnormal problem.

I know you are disappointed with this site's community when it comes to its enthusiasm with the "future" of the Dreamcast, but to say that one is unable to get help with or discuss stuff from the Dreamcast's past is bullshit. I consider your post to be trolling, so please stop.
It's thinking...

Yeah, I don't care about the "future" of the dc, but I sure help out when I can for hardware related stuff.

Possibly a faulty power board. Thery are replaceable, but the one place I know that used to sell them (Lik Sang) is no longer around. I'd just goto a local fleamarket and pickup a cheap Dreamcast. :)

Try to put a vmu (with screen) in the controller and if it do BEEP over and over again, then it's a power supply problem.

If it don't, it might really be a faulty gd-rom drive, try to replace it with the one from your old DC or simply remove it, blow in the connections, clean it a lil' then reconnect and try. Also check if everything related to fan is and controller port pcb is properly connected (even if the fan works, if the 3rd wire ain't connected it'll not works).

Also, is anything displayed on the screen ?

I hope I've been of help !

ps: There will ALWAYS be people here to HELP others with hardware issues, at least, Darc, Zealous Zerotype and me will always be ...
