Modchip?
Anyone know where to get Dreamcast modchips these days? Having trouble finding a site that still sells them.

Because that's more of a pain in the ass than swapping discs isChristuserloeser wrote:Why a bootdisc or modchip if you could use region changer 1.5

It's a simple mod with little risk. If you blow up your Dreamcast, just buy a new one. And not all boot discs are 100% compatible.JKKDARK wrote:because you don't need to touch your dreamcast hardware :p|darc| wrote:why a boot disc when you can use a modchip?JKKDARK wrote:why a modchip when you can use a boot disc like utopia or gameshark?

Not so easy for some of us folks. It's not as easy to come by a DC around here, well the last time I looked anyway. And they tend to go for crazy prices that aren't worth it.It's a simple mod with little risk. If you blow up your Dreamcast, just buy a new one

Quite true. Its been over a year since I've seen Dreamcasts for sale around me. Last time I saw them they were going for $15, but now they want $60.Skynet wrote:Not so easy for some of us folks. If you take a half hour to practice soldering on old electronics, you can install the Dreamcast modchip. It's a simple mod. Once installed, a modchip is the best way to play games region free. If you'd rather not do it because you can use a boot disc, that's fine, but stay out of threads where people who are willing to do the mods are trying to discuss it. This is the hardware modification forum, why are you here if you're just going to try to deter people from doing hardware modification?Skynet wrote:Not so easy for some of us folks. Don't get all preachy to me darc. I was merely stating that you said:
I explained that it's not that easy for everyone. JKKDARK first mentioned boot discs, he/she lives in Munich and Dreamcasts might not be all that easy to come by there, I have no idea. I live in Australia, the last time I looked they were still relatively expensive and you haven't been able to buy them in shops for about the last 5 years except for one, Cash Converters. I have no problem with people putting in modchips if I could I probably would. It might mean I'd play Seaman a bit more. I might also play NiGHTS on my Saturn more if it were chipped. However, you saying you can just buy a new one is what I was going after. Not the use of modchips. If you blow up your Dreamcast, just buy a new one

Considering I never once mentioned the mod was hard to do or anything like that and my entire post was referring to purchasing a dreamcast, it doesn't seem so hard to figure out. Just because I quoted your entire post doesn't mean I was referring to the mod part, it was all to do with the availability of the Dreamcast in Australia.
