Hi just wondering if anybody thinks it would be possible to hook up a wii mote
to a dreamcast console?
The recent break through of being able to hook a wii mote to the computer
makes me wonder.
would it be possible to power up a blue tooth device from the dreamcast's control port. The device would then be driven by a disc with the proper instructions... Just wondering what you guys have to say about this
Wiieamcast!

It would have to be a standalone unit that would use bluetooth technology to interpret Wii controller signals into Dreamcast controller signals, then send that to the Dreamcast through the controller port. In other words, it wouldn't just be something you could solder up at home, plus IR support and probably motion support would be thrown out the window using this method.
Alternatively, if you could activate a Bluetooth device through a controller port (not likely, but let's pretend for a moment), you would first have to write software that would allow the Dreamcast to use a Bluetooth adapter to communicate with devices, then have it pick up the Wiimote, then have it interpret those signals from the Wiimote into something usable. Then, on top of that, you would have to integrate the support into any homebrew software you have, since you couldn't just plug in a game and have it use the features. Commercial games would be out.
At any rate, the likelihood of it working is next to none and even if it did, no software would be able to take advantage of it unless specifically written to do so. In other words...

If you could hook up a bluetooth adapter, and get a bluetooth stack working, then it'd be easy. It took me all of an afternoon to write a Wii remote driver for Linux, for example. And I didn't have a clue what I was doing.
However, you'd need to buid a significant chunk of hardware, and then either write a bluetooth stack from scratch, or port one. That's a whole lot of work - it's far easier to just write stuff on a PC using a Wii remote.
