Clerks 2
Well, Clerks 2 is coming out this summer, and a teaser trailer is available.

I really don't know what to think about this. Kevin Smith previously stated that it wouldn't be a celebrity gathering like Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, and that the only returning View Askew regulars would be Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, and Kevin Smith. However, in the trailer there's Jason Lee, Ethan Suplee, Jennifer Schwalbach, and Ben Affleck.
It also looks goofier than I would have liked. I like the Kevin Smith movies - but from the trailer it looks as if this probably would have been better suited to a Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back type movie instead of a Clerks sequel. Heck, they could have made it a Mallrats 2 - the characters revolve around the same town and the events in Mallrats happened before Clerks. And Mallrats was goofier than Clerks - so from the trailer - it looks like this could have fit that mold quite well.
Though, as they say - looks can be decieving, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see. My hopes are now slightly down after seeing that trailer though.

From the trailer, I take it that this movie is going to be more about how the corporate beast takes over smaller shops (Dante's OMG when he opens the shop, probably saw a out of business sign) and how you try and justify working at a shit job when you are approaching/in your 30's.
The Kevin Smith who wrote and directed this movie is not the same Kevin Smith who wrote and directed the original Clerks. He can't be. This movie has to somehow send a message about the man he is now, after the fame, after the notoriety.
I'm definitely more interested now that I know it simply won't be a rehash of the same old Clerks, which seems quite a few people want.
Edit: Looking around, I found this which is nice: http://clerks2.com/movies/goodbadman560.mov
Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and Kevin Smith discuss an early version of Clerks II.

It doesn't work too well though. So many god damned people praise him as though he were the second coming.

He really just reminds me of one of those pushover guys who will let you walk all over him only to bitch about it behind your back later.toastman wrote:As a person, yes he is.
