PS1-style Dreamcast controller not working...

Post by jessman »

Hey everyone. I bought two "DCX controllers" from easybuy2000 and it has the exact same button layout and shape as a ps1 controller. The problem is that when I plug one into my Dreamcast nothing seems t respond. The controller's light turns on but no buttons seem to work. Is my controller meant for a PAL DC or something? Or does it only work with Bleem!cast? Please help me out, as I feel like I've wasted money on some crappy controllers that won't function.

Did you get them new or 2nd hand?

Could be a simple issue of a bad or dirty connection.

I got a new Pelican Shock controller recently, and for some reason it doesn't work if I plug it directly into the DC, but if I use a controller extension cable, it works fine.

Your controller ports are working OK? You've tested them with other controllers?

If the DC is Ok, then chances are it's just a bad/dirty connection somewhere. Give the contacts a clean, as best you can, I know it ain't easy.

If the controllers have been sitting in boxes for the past 5-odd years, then it's possible that the contacts have picked up a bit of oxidation, so maybe all that's needed is a bit of a clean.

Obviously if the light is coming on, some signals are getting through, but there are other contacts in the connector that might need some cleaning.
