cant wait for the Q4 demo... im very curious how my rig handles it, and how it is
could anyone with Q4 report back with what kind of copy protection it has? i dont feel like buying a 60 euro game and finding out it installs some fucked up driver on my system

I have D-Tools running on mine, and it never complained. So I dunno. Actually, I extremely suprised how well Quake 4 runs on my computer. I have a 2.4ghz P4 with a 6600GT, and this game on high settings runs twice as fast as Doom 3 did. I was actually quite amazed how well this game runs.Wagh wrote:secure rom 7 is what quake 4 has. The damn thing freaks if you have something like d-tools open when you play it.

dude skynet, how about some Q4/Q2 when i get it all installed?Skynet wrote: Quake 4 DVD Special Edition. Turns out I do meet minimum system requirements.
i bought the game yesterday, but today ill be going to a big PC shop, picking up some stuff, then swapping half my own system for new stuff and building my lil bro a system, so i probably wont be able to play yet today
but on the bright side, ill be getting a new case, a DVD-RW drive and a amd 3400 instead of my lowly sempron
also, Q4 is supposed to run a lot better then D3, so maybe those system req's are a bit OTT to make sure everyone gets absolutely fluent play...

Um, I can't exactly play it online. It ran like utter crap. It wasn't the ping, but my machine just wouldn't cope.
It runs about the same as D3 for me. I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much from my rig or I have some serious issues. But I struggle to play D3 and Q4 on 800x600 low quality. It runs, but it's not terribly smooth. 640x480 with AA on and it runs better, just bleh. I tried MP today on a server with about 60-70ping and it was unbarable. I'm talking 15fps or so (didn't have fps counter on, don't know how).
My setup:
Athlon XP2000+ (looking to upgrade)
Jetway 6600GT ** (was forced onto jetway as pc store sold me wrong product initially, and wouldn't refund cash. Only store credit)
512MB PC2700 RAM
**Some of you may remember the horror stories I had with buying my new graphics card. First they sold me what I wanted but at a more expensive price than advertised . Once my gf got it home because I was working and unable to pick it up, I looked at the box and saw it was PCI-E, totally useless to me. When I complain they sold me the wrong product, they claimed it was her fault even though I wrote everything down word-for-word so they wouldn't do something like this and I had my ass covered as what I wanted was clearly written down. A6600GT not the PCI-E version. Once I got them to take it back they would only give me store credit, what was I gonna do with $350+ store credit at a store I hate? In the end I got to take the cheaper brand (wooo? ) and have difference refunded in cash. So yeah, I'm still unimpressed with that mob.
For aussies, I've been reading into it and although I knew ITWarehouse were dodgy before I bought from them, I've been hearing worse and worse things. Their 3 previous encarnations of stores all went bankrupt, that's a good starting point isn't it? And I've also heard bad experiences with the 2 stores that screwed me over, also.
Sorry for long post.

i remember the jetway horror story back then, but still a 6600GT is a good card
id say look into a second hand barton amd xp, unless your willing to make the jump to a64, and see if you can find a second stick of cheap ram, i think 1 gb will help it out nicely
