Free video editor?

I'm looking for a free video editor that won't just change the codec but give me the ability to actually cut out parts and put some in.

I can't remember if it has an insert function, but VirtualDub is free, easy to use, has great support and cut-editing.

you already have windows movie maker on xp if you're not worried about using something very pro.

but windows movie maker always seems to turn the quality down to crappy web video levels.

you can set it to uncompressed avi somewhere in the options if i remember correctly.
