The Xmen were preparing us for this day!

'Mutant' children are best
THE Chernobyl nuclear disaster has spawned a generation of ?mutant? super-brainy children.

Kids growing up in areas damaged by radiation from the plant have a higher IQ and faster reaction times, say Russian doctors.

They are also growing faster and have stronger immune systems.
source marvel must be in on it making us feel at ease with mutants

uh oh, looks like the soviets will be getting their mind controll soldiers after all :|

i never thought chernobyl would actually have such possitive side effects, im wondering if someone will dare and put some research into using radioactive materials for enhancing the human body

but then again, this could all work out into some sort of uegenics conflict without the genetic, but with radioactive modifications

I'll bet their cancer rates are superhuman too.

I don't think you can draw much of a conclusion from just one study, especially having no information on precisely how it was conducted. Everything I've heard about it suggests that it's very, very hard to do a good study like this with all the factors you can miss correcting for.

Well, if their immune systems are infact superior, then they may be able to battle cancer cells better than us "normals".

Man, it would be cool to have some kind of Mutant power that didn't disfigure you tho... like Wolvie's Claws, or something cool like that.

I can't believe I'm making a Family Guy reference, but with everyone now saying they wish they have super powers from radiation, it reminds me of the episode where the Griffens got superpowers from toxic waste, and the mayor jumped into the toxic waste and got cancer.

You won't end up brainy, you'll end up dead. But on the plus side, you'll get to see a human sized version of Mrs. Garret's breasts at your deathbead.

There's a few things to consider.
1.) They are children. That means many of them may not have had the chance to develop serious disorders or catch diseases yet.
2.) Cancer is a disease. However, it's not a viral or bacterial disease. It is thought that cancer is caused by lack of oxygen in a cell, not by viruses multiplying or bacteria attacking cells. So the 'enemy' for the immune system is simply broken down cells. Your immune system will almost never attack cancer cells; they usually die on their own.

I've never heard of this hypothesis. Have any links?

No. It's one of the many things the Oncologists and Doctors told my family when my mom was dieing of cancer.

It may be that it's a possible cause, but it's certainly not the only one. Cancer is when cells reproduce pathologically. Anything that messes with the cells' reproductive mechanism can cause cancer.
