Gmail on DC

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Couldn't you just use POP3 on Gmail and use the included e-mail client on the browser to check your gmail?

No, because it uses secure servers and a different port, and from what I know, there are no e-mail clients for the DC that support that.

Ditto.

I usually give them away to http://isnoop.net/gmail/ anyway, so I know they're being put to good use.

LyingWake...what ports do gmail servers actually use by the way?

it might be able to be edited within the pw binary..or dp binary to give access to the smtp/pop servers...im not all that familiar with how gmail works..so please keep that in mind.

edit:also..if all else fails i highly suggest that you always keep up with whats going on at the dcbg browser user group at yahoo..it has been around a very long time..and it seems activity has went thru the roof over there since karl posted about gmail on dc..they use these browsers everyday..who better can you learn how to set up your gmail accounts from than those who use these browsers as a main stay of internet connection?

read here:

http://gamesource.groups.yahoo.com/grou ... sers/links

read up on all the gmail info first to inform yourself on their discussion on it...

read here:

http://gamesource.groups.yahoo.com/grou ... sage/14016

most current post on the topic...seems some of them are using gmail with the smtp/pop server info...

join the group if need be and ask..but be sure to catch up on the gmail posts first so you'll be on the same page they are first....they'll figure out the best way to use gmail for dc...they always find work arounds

Gmail requries a secure connection (SSL) for both POP and SMTP.

For POP, the port is 995.
For SMTP, the port is 465.

And when you send mail (SMTP) Gmail requires authentication.

Again, they must use a secure connection.
