The butchering of DOOM in movie form has begun

Post by Lunchbox »

From GamesAreFun.com

Thanks to Dark Horizons posting a translation of this article, we can now bring you some updated details on the Doom movie that's being made.

Andrzej Bartkowiak has been put in charge of the $70 million production, replacing Enda McCallion. According to screenwriter Dave Callahan, "everyone was keen to keep the game's atmosphere," yet there are some definite changes that have been made. Rather than being from hell, the monsters in the movie are humans that have been mutated by a virus. The movie doesn't take place on Mars, and instead of one space marine being the main character, there are eight marines.

The main premise is that eight marines are teleported into a secret base on a distant planet. The aforementioned humans-turned-monsters soon start appearing, and the marines have to try to deal with them and find out what the root of the evil is.

Only one character has been specifically mentioned at this point. "Pinky" (the name should be familiar to Doom players) plays the role of a wheelchair-confined technician who ends up becoming infected and mutating into a monster (from Doom 3).

Producers promise lots of action and shooting, though the film is going to be more of a horror film than an action one. One interesting twist is that near the end of the movie, there will be a lot of sequences shot solely in a first-person perspective of the main character (Karl Urban).

Last, but not least, the chainsaw and Bio Force Gun will be appearing in the film.

We'll be sure to keep you up-to-date with the latest on the Doom movie as we hear it.

The first Mortal Kombat movie was pretty good.

The second one was like Power Rangers in the dark...

I liked the first Resident Evil movie.

The second one's problem was that they decided to include some part of the game's true story, and butchered a lot of what they included.

Besides. Sometimes it is good to watch a bad movie. I own the Street Fighter live action move on DVD O_o

That is what I was thinking. It sounds EXACTLY like Resident Evil actually.

Also they might have changed it since being from hell might upset a lot of people. Either way I doubt I will see it.

Actually, it sounds a lot like Halo...

A bunch of marines fighting against mutated humans infected by a virus. Hmmm...

Only people it'd upset are those who haven't/don't play the games - and really would that be your target audience for the movie - heck no.

It can never be good to watch that, it is evil & must be subjected to the purifying flames for the good of the world. I only hope that it comes out as entertaining as the Doom comic did, now that was funny, obviously more on the action side than humour for the film is the hope

The Prisoner - Makes NGE's ending look almost intelligible.
