This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.
Ok, so this has pretty much nothing to do with the last thread, but I'm just curious as to whether people really care about high scores. I mean, it isn't a big deal for me to put them in, but I personally never cared about them. Just wondering if you guys do.
Oh man, High scores bring me back to the days of old. It great to be able to get together with friends at an arcade or at home and say,
"Hey, you know who DMR is? Yeah, that's right, ME!"
Yes, I've just had a whole bunch of things get in the way, whether it's fighting to get graphics that don't look like crap on an NTSC screen, or just life things getting in the way. You can expect a demo sometime in the next couple of weeks though.
i have a highscore list on my mame machine that saves all the high scores... we have an ongoing vs. pinball battle here at home, my dad actually plays it and is up to 317,000 (roughly) points, which is just nuts...
I would definitely say yes. After I got pretty good at beating Raiden, I spent forever trying to best my high scores on it.
Mars Matrix, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun and the like are all games where getting a higher score is at the core of the gameplay. You might be able to advance higher, but if you can get a higher score, you know you're getting better.
On most games I couldn't care less about highscores, but I definitely like them with shooters. (Mostly because I suck so bad at shooters) Seeing my name somewhere on a highscore table gives some sense of accomplishment.
