Saturn LED Voltage

Post by finty101 »

Can someone tell me what voltage the Sega Saturns LED's are?

Im kind of new to this so does it matter what voltage I install? Im sure it does but it never hurts to ask

I dont know wut the voltage is but i would imagine it's 3.3 volts. As for your other question it does matter what voltage you install to a certain extant. If the LED you choose is rated too low the light will burn out. If its too high then it will shine but dimly because its not getting the proper current to power it that it requires.

Well I live in America so Radioshack is a good bet. As for using the internet people on this site recomend http://www.lsdiodes.com/ Personally I buy mine on ebay from an ebay store known as the "LED Store" because you can get packs of 10 to 20 LEDs for about 6 or 7 dollars with s/h.

Does anyone else think the saturn is a pure bitch to dismantle?

I have already had to bend the protective metal shield once just to get the controller board out :| , Although when spraying every thing will come out at once, so it should just lift out in piece's.

BTW, it doesnt say voltage on the lsdiodes, how do you know?

Yeah it is a bit of a pain. Try pulling the controller board out at an angle or taking its sheilding off. And after you've taken off the CD drive take out the PSU

Thanks.

Have you case modded a V2?

You know how the disc access LED was removed? Well they installed the same board as V1, with the slot for LED, I was thinking of getting another light guide and putting the LED there, it should still function shouldnt it?

It does say the voltage. Once you get into the LED category and it lists all the LED choices, click on the LED it will bring up a spec sheet for that LED. What you want to look at on that sheet is the "Typ" and the "Max" on the forward voltage parameter. The "Typ" is what it usually runs at and the "Max" is the most voltage you can put to it before it blows.

A 3.6V ultra violet should still be bright at 3.3V, shouldnt it?

Yeah becuase the two voltages are relatively close, but in my opinion i would stay away from U/V LEDs. I bought a pack of 3mm 3.6V and when i hooked it up it wasnt too too bright. Granted it was during the day so that could play a part too it, but it is your choice plus they're cheap so you could buy one, try it, and if you decide you dont like it, change it.

I keep mine because if you get rid of it you're left with an empty indent in the shape of the logo. With my friends DC i ended up painting the swirl black, it was definitely tedious but the results were nice. I used a super fine tipped brush that i bought at a hobby shop and some acrylic paint and painted the swirl. I then took paint thinner and painted all the excess in the white of the logo.
