110/220v? SEGA NOMAD

Post by Christuserloeser »

I've brought a SEGA NOMAD.
It's a MEGA DRIVE / GENESIS Portable and it's a cool thing,
but it eats up all my batteries within a few minutes : (

I've looked at the manuals and package that came with it
but I wasn't able to figure out if it's 110v or 220v that are
used within the United States.
I wondered, because I have a SMD2 220v AC adapter but
I'll -NOT- try it out without the proven knowledge of the
signal that it was made for.

I also got SMS2, MegaCD2, GG and MD1 PAL 50hz and 220v
AC adapters. For GG I even got a car adapter.

Does anyone knows anything about these things!?

Please help me out! THX

The US uses 110v or 120v mains (cant remember the exact number its one of em) I think you might get away with the one you have as it will supply the same power to the Nomad as a US unit would. With my US N64 I use a step down converter to lower the voltage to US levels but in theory all psu's should supply the same power (note thats not saying go try it with an expensive machine)

If you have a sega genesis use the same adapter. That's what I use on mine. It's 120v.

thanx so far.

I am somewhat confused now....

hawq - this sounds like the machine will take damage from
using it without stepdown converter. I know that it theoretically
may work - but I refuse to test it with my beautiful Nomad : p
BTW: for me, it IS/was expensive... thank you anyway!

CosterKing - what adaptor do you use? please please tell me exactly
which facts the adaptor itself has written on it's front and about
the country versions of both your consoles. is your nomad "multinorm"
prepared (build to be used with all games and adaptors or something)?

thank you all!

It's a standard UK adaptor from a PAL Megadrive II mate. I bought my Nomad brand new in Florida over six years ago and I haven't changed anything.

Adaptor stats:-

Input: 240V ~ 50Hz
Output: 10V 0.85(850m)A

I've been using it (a lot) for around 6 years with no adverse effects and no I haven't modified my Nomad to play PAL and JAP carts, I just use an Action Replay cart. There is a fairly easy mod you can do, but I didn't feel like butchering my machine. Like you I am protective of my Nomad :)

does this allow you to play japanese games like golden axe 3 and pulseman on nomad!? or just PAL & US??? (50/60hz)
isn't there a need to cut country detection out or something!?
