Modem LED Mod

Post by TheGreatCraig »

The tutorial on DevCast doesnt work so if someone could please link me to another one that would be great. Also I remember reading somewhere before, that if you wire it to some different places it will flash like an access LED (when the system is reading something). So if someone can link me to how to do that I'd be quite happy.

Thanks.

Ok I Found a Modem LED Tut from here: http://www.geocities.com/dreamcastmods/main.htm

Edit: I found the access part: http://www.dcemulation.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=37449

However in these ramblings I couldn't actually figure out what pin it is. Someone wanna be a "Clarica Advisor" and make sense of this for me?

Also. My LED's are 3.7V and the tutorial says to wire to pin 2. However, pin 2 is said (http://homepages.compuserve.de/bITmASTE ... allel.html) to be 5V. So should I wire to something like, pin 17, 18 or 19?

And how do the pins count cause they look like this:

50------------------------------------------------2
-|--|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|--|
--|--|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|--|
49-------------------------------------------------1

So do they count in a zig-zag pattern? /\/\/\ or more like boxy? |_|-|_

Sorry for the lame ASCII diagrams.

Well, Not really wanting to wait I decided to do this all myself. What I found out is,

1. The modem pins count in a zigzag pattern.
2. The pin that will give an access LED effect is #36**
3. You can wire to #2 as your power (5V) even if your LED isn't rated for that.

** The access LED has a few flaws. Firstly it will only work correctly if you close the lid and then turn the system on. If you dont the LED will come on and then stop soon after, not coming on again until the system is restarted. Also if you swap discs with the system on the LED will stop.

When I got mine to work I looked at the original post and saw a mistake, something like 2 pins up to much :)

i have no clue what value they are. what can i use to test it? if worse comes to worse, i can just try em out and if the led burns out, i guess its not the right one, right? thats a lil unorthodox, so do you think it would work?

According to bitmaster there are some pins that run 3V. I havent tried them though.
