My SNES paint job
Well originally this unit was pee-yellow except for a few grey pieces. I picked it up from Value Village for $5 and I've been trying to decide what to do with it. Soo a few days ago I was bored and decided to do something with it. So I went down to the local Home Depot and picked out some paint and supplies (thanks to Xylene's tips ) and just started working on it.
eye candy:
I had to go with "Satin" color Krylon paint since it was the only flat paint they had besides ugly brown. The clear coats turned out really good, overall everything worked out. Mind the dust and things in the pics (they're not stuck in the paint..). That little hole near the reset switch I sanded down as much I could, looked like the result of a cigarette burn from the previous owner I kept the controller ports grey (the only thing that was grey anyway ) just for some contrast, plus I'm lazy and didn't want to fcuk it up...
the back, took care to save the label
the bottom of the unit, didn't care too much about it as it's not really seen much but it came out pretty good...
I think it turned out pretty good considering I've never used spraypaint

What's that port on the bottom for? Did it ever get used, like for that BS Satellite thing?

Thanks I don't know if I'm gonna be adding anything soon might try adding a 50/60hz switch and a lockout disiabler switch, maybe some LEDs if I can think of a place to put them.
As far as I know that port was just used for the BS, and I think it was where the Snes CD-rom addon was supposed to connect.

Nice paint job. Shame the Super Nintendo logo was painted on the original instead of molded onto the casing like the Nintendo logo, otherwise it would have looked even better from not having to mask it off.

Well, Nintendo did a good job with the Mini-SNES design. But they left the EXT port off of it, since it had no use in America.
Of course, the N64 ALMOST had a use for it. The N64DD. Only Japan got it, but it still used the port.
And the Jap. NES/Famicom had the 3-1/2 in. floppy drive, and Nintendo probably added the port to the NES in case they decided they wanted to release the drive here.
But it is nice to see the GCN useing the ports, and so far, 2 of the 3. The GB Player uses the high-speed port and the modem/BBA uses EXT1. Odds are EXT2 won't ever have a use, but at least Nintendo has it.

Classicgaming.com through Google image search?
I have one of both, tried to modify the reciever for my pair of SNES wireless controllers so that it could fit the ports on both consoles, gave up and picked up a pair of extension cables for it. Insert irony here.
Doesn't seem to have quite as much trouble getting the cartridges to make contact as the older one. (I actually had to put a long bit of dense foam rubber behind the cartridge slot door on the old one to try and make the door keep the cartridge wedged in the proper position and not wobble.
