Digging a hole...

Post by Egotistical EvilN »

Suppose you were to dig an underground room out, it is 10x10x8..Your entrance is 3x3.You have less than $100 to spend on digging it.You can't use a bobcat or a backhoe or anything like that because that would dig a hole, not a room, and you would end up with no ceiling. How would you do it?

You would need a lot of support, otherwise the soil above you would collapse. As to how to dig it, I don't really know. Do you have a lot of friends and spades? :)

Yeah.. you would need MANY shovels, some sort of way to make sure it's all level, and i'd just work slowly inward, butting 4x4 supports every 2 feet or so (maybe less)

I don't think you could support that much dirt for 100 bucks.

Ah... when nerds get older...

Too bad I don't have crazy notions as such O_o

Also watch out for health risks, such as radon, any electrical lines or pipes in the area, and any other obstructions.

If the land is anything like my house (old farm land) than digging is near impossible without a pick of some sort.

I'd say the only health risk hes likely to encounter is he only has a 9 foot square hole to fit his girth through

Are you gonna go down there and have long drawn out conversations on life and the universe with said swingset gundam?

15 feet eh? sounds more like a project for someone with a set of very wealthy parents.
