I use PSP5.0 'cos it was bundled on a magazine coverdisk...
And no, I don't really do any image editing; just jpeg / gif / png conversions and stuff like that for webpages.

yeah gotta say Photoshop is very good. Not too hard to learn, good tutorials around, comes in handy a lot... it's expensive but you can usually get student's discounts for it. Lots of nice plugins around too.
MS Paint just makes me want to break things...

When in Windows, I use PSP. When in Linux, I use Gimp.
More often then not, I go to my Windows box when I need to do any serious image editing.. as I'm more comfortable using PSP then Gimp at the moment. Therefor PSP got my vote.

I've used Photoshop 7 occasionally for complicated stuff, Paintshop 7 for my animated sig (see left) and iPhotoPlus (the predecessor of PhotoExpress) for most other stuff. It uses nice big buttons, so it's best for me.

I use MGI Photosuite II myself, but that's only because it was a packaged program that came with my scanner.

The thing is, even Photoshop is free for 99% of the people who use it - myself included

If you can actually draw, you don't actually need anything better than Paint.
If you're just some warezing lamer using other peoples work with like a filter or two, yeah, go ahead and get photoshop

so you have it too... cool.
and you drew the pic in your avatar?
and it might prove difficult to draw, and use paint to make the sig i made. (i don't think i used other peoples work?)
