Answers to Most DreamSNES Questions

Post by Tails Prower »

I've seen about a cajillion topics bout people asking questions with DreamSNES, So lets have a go at making one big topic.

Q: Selfboot or Emu Disk/Rom Disk?

A: If you can use a selfboot kit, then Selfboot, this prevents the problem of messing up the rom disk, and having to put the emu disk back in to switch games.

Q: Wich Selfboot Kits?

A: I reccomend Suse's Selfboot Kit which is very easy to use, or u can try Disco Stu's Selfboot Buddy

Q: How can i speed up performance?

A: Turn the sound off. A few select games run ok with sound.

Q: Which Games?

A: Not sure. I play legend of Zelda with sound, but thats only when i need the sound to keep me awake.

Q: Which games do run well?

A: I suggest Super Metroid (Greatest Game EVER), Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger , generally any RPG, Super Mario Land, Contra III, Super Bomberman 5, Battletoads/Double Dragon....hmmmm I havent gotten a chance to test other games yet, but this should keep you busy.

Q: If i dont wanna selfboot, Nero or DJ?

A: I would suggest Nero, DJ just isnt my style.

Q: Where can i find these Roms?

A: PM me or Email me (therealnessshady@hotmail.com) for a good site.

Q: Do you like animals?

A: Wolves.

Q: Which Version?

A: 9.3 has framskip, but i havent tried it, maybe someone else will answer this one.

Q: How do i exit a game?

A: you dont read help files.....hold the analog to the left for three seconds, up and down on the analog act as select.

Q: When i try to switch games, it doesn't work!

A: You probably messed up with the sound file, DreamSNES has to load the 'Beauty is in the eye' song before you can select a different game. Put the emu disk in, wait to load the song, then put the rom disk in, and play your game, or selfboot.

Q: I cant see the stuff in the corners!

A: This happens, turn Fullscreen off.

Q: It doesnt save!

A: Make sure you have enough free blocks on your memory card...errr...VMU *hides his PS2* games like Mario RPG take up 66 blocks.

Q: Whats SRAM?

A: I forgot.....

Q: Which games suck/dont run?

A: Mario RPG runs slow as hell with the sound off, and...and MEGAMAN X 2 and 3 DONT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOO! Those were the games i really wanted to play....

Q: Microsoft, Nintendo,or Sony?

A: You should see my XCubeStationBox 2.[/b]

Do ips roms work on it?
IPS files themselves do not work. You must patch your game using an ips patcher (SNESTool) in order for it to work.

Let's say you have Final Fantasy 5 in Japanese. You also have an IPS file to translate it in english. Then you would need an IPS patcher to to use the ips file on the FF 5 rom.

Acknowledgements: to DeGamer for answering the question about ips roms.

http://www.dcvision.com/burnero/sbb.htm <--- self-boot buddy

SRAM is what the SNES saves to

Mario RPG is V. playable... turn full-screen off

": How do i exit a game?

It's not in the readme.... which is a bitch :)

Q: Which games do run well?
Super Pubchout is the only one to run 100%

[i need a link to the dont know what it is called think its called "DreamMenu"]

Oh dear, looks like my list and surxes' list have some bits which are different.....

E.g

My list:
Donkey Kong Country, all - games are very slow
Surxes list:
020.) Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest - Version 1.1 [full]

021.) Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble [full]

022.) Donkey Kong Country - Version 1.1 [full]
But Surxe is probably right cos i didn't actually test any of the games, i gathered info from various sources :p

Hell if only I knew  , but if I find out I'll post about it.

You are correct. Rockman and Forte is not MegaMan 9, it is just another Megaman game (Hell I should know, I have EVERY sinlge Megaman game created) :D

I also want to add some Q & A here as well.

Q: In what folder do the roms go in?

In version 0.93 "Games" Folder In version 0.94 "Roms" folder

Q: Do games need to be unzipped or zipped?
All games MUST be UNZIPPED since there is no zip support

Q:What file extension do the roms need to be in?
To be safe, put your roms with the extension "SMC" If you have an SNES rom with the extension "SWC", "SFC", or "FIG", simply rename the extension to SMC and it will work.

Feel free to put these in the post at the beginning.
Oh, no. NO! You can't do this to me. Don't give me a playstation. NOOOOOOOOOO! I don't want a piece of crap. Take it back and burn it to heeelll!!! Die Sony Computer Entertainment with you PS (Piece of Sh?t) and your PS 2 (Piece of Sh?t?2)
