Who wrote this and WTF has it not been altered or edited?
"This is why you never see any really large free- roaming 3D games on the PS2. Crazy Taxi, Ecco the Dolphin, and Shenmue are simply not possible on the PS2" hehehe

That article is a load of biased rubbish. It only has one shred of truth - the early PS2 games were crap. Nobody had a clue how to program the console, because it requires you to be able to use a main CPU, a coprocessor, two maths coprocessors, and loads of other stuff, all at the same time. It's a bit like the Saturn - nobody had a clue what they were doing, and very few console game coders are anywhere near good enough to take advantage of the hardware. That only changed when third-party companies started producing their own SDKs to supliment the rather sparse ones that Sony offered, and did nearly all of the work for the coders. GTA3 was written using the RenderWare platform, so they just had to tell it what to do.
The fact is that without these libraries, most coders could not program games like Crazy Taxi or Shenmue. Similar to the Saturn, which also required all sorts of funky coding to get the most out of, and needed really top-class programmers to squeeze the best performance out of it. The only reason that the PS2 didn't die from lack of third-party developers is that it is the PlayStation 2, so most people just moved directly to it without even glancing at the opposition. Probably too many publishing people saw too much money, and decided to go with the PS2 even though it's a pain the the butt to make games for.

O cmon its just a article. Hell 1/2 the people that come here arent smart enough to know its not true. I mean and no major person from sony is gonna come telling you that its not true and should be removed ethier.404NotFound wrote:yeah can't some admin remove it? it really takes credibility from the site.

But 92% of the fanboys at gamefaqs are too dumb to realise the article isn't exactly true and base entire flame wars on it.. Giving the sire a bad repclessoulis wrote:O cmon its just a article. no it wasn't. Gah you people are too newbish to remember but back in the day (early days of ps2) I was browsing segatech.com (not sure if they're still around) but I found the article there and linked it over to 007. As time has moved on developers have gotten better at coding for the ps2. So basically the article is all based on 1st gen ps2 games and the stats of the dc at the time. Anyways of course it should be removed .. fact is I've petetioned 007 to remove it before but no avail. oh well.|darc| wrote:And that was made by 007!
