Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
I thought I'd lost interest over the years but no way. I'm so hyped.
The most I ever hoped for was some lazy remasters by Sega.
I'm pondering over which edition to get.
Sadly $10,000 is a bit too much for the real jacket.

Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
It is weird though. Even if it has a "retro" feel to it, $2,000,000 isn't going to cover development of this when it's not due out until December 2017.
I feel like this is some sort of dip-test for the fans and maybe Sony will pick up the tab for the rest?

Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
Yeah, they probably want to test the waters and see how people actually react to the announcement. If there isn't enough reception to hit $2MM, then they could just say "Oh well, the Kickstarter failed, no game."
It's thinking...

Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
It is using commercial 3rd party tech rather than developing the tech.
So the budget goes considerably less.
I am going for the 300$ prize. Having anything signed by Suzuki is the closest I'll ever get to meeting him.
What we have seen so far is pretty crap though, let's keep it real. Yes, we have 2 character models but the environments could have been taken from any other current gen game.
Also the voice acting seems to be worse than the previous games.
How much will this game appeal to contemporary gamers, Kikizo did an article a decade ago stating Shenmue 3 will contain a remake of the previous 2 games. I think that is a good idea to get new players involved in the game.
I am pretty sure a good port of the game is coming out soon after the Kickstarter ends, a remake for Shenmue 1 December 2015 and Shenmue 2 December 2016 would be a good idea.

Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
I fucking lost it when I read this.
Sony has to be picking up the tab on a lot of this game. The kickstarter has got to be just to test the waters. Shenmue, even though it has a loud fanbase, is a risky and expensive title.
Yu Suzuki now has the rights to Shenmue 3, but not to Shenmue 1 and 2. He stated that any rerelease of 1 and 2 is entirely up to sega as they still own the rights to those games. After the kickstarter though sega would be stupid not to release HD ports.
I'll be going for the $175 dollar, as I want a physical release and want to support this. I wish I could get the 500, but well....yea....
The stretch goals are a bit weird, they need to be reworked I think. Reasonable, descriptive and desirable stretch goals are very important.

Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
I don't think the game will end up being that great. I've always believed that. But, I want closure to two games that defined my early teenage years. It could just be "then he woke up and it was all a dream", but at least that cliffhanger from 15 years ago is finally officially resolved.
Nothing can be worse than leaving the story as it is.

Funded in ~9 hours, breaking several Kickstarter records. Currently working its way toward stretch goals.

Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
Between Shenmue 3, Last Guardian, the FF7 remake, Fallout 4, and a new Nier game, my wife will almost certainly be coming home with a PS4 sometime in the next few days.
I'm still not sure I need one (I did just get a fancy new computer, which has kept me quite satisfied between GOG and the Humble Store), but those are five of her favorite things.

No, the fans did it by putting their money where their mouths were.Eviltaco64X wrote:Yu did it.
Yu won't have done it until a finished game is delivered.

Play on words, man. Yu being 'you', 'you' being a general label to apply to the crowd of people funding the project and the fanbase, Yu being Yu.DaMadFiddler wrote:No, the fans did it by putting their money where their mouths were.Eviltaco64X wrote:Yu did it.

Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
Yeah, I get it
I was just being a Kickstarter cynic, as usual.
Speaking of which: it was just confirmed that (as many suspected) Sony is actually covering a lot of the development cost, and the Kickstarter campaign was primarily to gauge whether or not there was sufficient interest.

I could honestly see everything from hours of ranting to death threats if a trailer comes along where Ryo suddenly has a PS2 instead of a Saturn.DaMadFiddler wrote:Sony is actually covering a lot of the development cost

Re: SHENMUE III CONFIRMED
I hope Kickstarting in this manner doesn't become a new trend. I'll let it go for Shenmue because it's a special case - we're talking about a sequel to a couple of very old games that never made any money. Plus, actually, I don't really care. I just want it.
And yeah, I'm breaking my promise to work through my backlog and picking up a PS4 tomorrow. The Witcher 3 has been tempting me since release and the next 12 months now look full of stuff worth owning a next-gen console for.
Really good E3.
...apart from Nintendo and their fucking Amiibo Animal Crossing board game. Fuck.

It already has.Specially Cork wrote:I hope Kickstarting in this manner doesn't become a new trend.
Like you, I'm not too particularly upset about it because I want to see Shenmue III happen and if this is the way it's gotta be, then OK. And I paid $60 for the physical copy, which probably isn't that off from how much it would cost normally. So I'm just gonna grin and pretend it's a preorder. But it does piss me off to see that 1,500+ people "donated" $5 or more to this for pretty much nothing.
Doing things this way has significant advantages for gaming companies, so expect to see this happen a lot.
