Re: 3D Realms closes doors
They only have themselves to blame. Vaporware isn't a good business model. They turned a decent franchise into a symbol of total incompetance.

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
They should at least release the code and materials for the game.
It's thinking...

I thought that they were actually going to release the game within a year or two from what Ive heard, apparently it will never happen.

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
They just ressurected the Apogee (wrong spelling) brand, it was suppose to bring in money? They released Duke 3D online, wasn't that suppose to bring in money? They also set up a seperate company called Radar Group.
Makes no sense to me.

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
In all seriousness, it's about time. How they managed to keep 3D Realms running by not producing software for the past 10 years is beyond me.
Now in a tiny filing cabinet inside my head, near the back, I can finally close the "Awaiting Duke Nukem Forever (might just be a little longer, but I can wait)" drawer. I can't say I'm too disappointed, as a decade of being told "it's coming" wears on a person.

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
They produced several games after Duke3D.
Publisher/producer
Prey 2, Duke Nukem Trilogy, Earth No More, Incarnate and whatever Apogee has planned could this very well be a publicity stunt, have they filed for bankruptcy some where?
(I am aware of what Joe Siegler said but he might be fooled or in on it as well.)
Publisher/producer
Let us not forget the rescently resurrected Apogee software label as well. they also have other upcomming games such aside from DNF1995 – Terminal Velocity – Terminal Reality
1997 – Duke Nukem 64 – Eurocom
1997 – Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown – Aardvark Software
1998 – Duke Nukem: Time to Kill – N-Space
1999 – Duke Nukem: Zero Hour – Eurocom
1999 – Duke Nukem (Game Boy Color) – Torus Games
2000 – Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes – N-Space
2001 – Max Payne – Remedy Entertainment
2002 – Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project – ARUSH Entertainment/Sunstorm Interactive
2003 – Duke Nukem Advance – Torus Games
2003 – Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne – Remedy Entertainment
2004 – Duke Nukem Mobile – Machine Works Northwest/Tapwave
2005 – Duke Nukem Mobile II: Bikini Project – Machine Works Northwest
2005 – Duke Nukem Mobile 3D – Machine Works Northwest
2006 – Prey – Human Head Studios
2008 – Duke Nukem 3D (Xbox Live Arcade)

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
They are joking. They just want to draw additional attention to their game to make it sell better when it's out. After 12 years of developing they just can't close doors.

But none internally developed - except for Shadow Warrior, which used the same engine as Duke3D.BILAL_XIA wrote:They produced several games after Duke3D.

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
Either way all the Duke games were successful except maybe Manhattan Project which failed commercially.
I for one was a very patient waiter for DNF, mainly cause I am waiting for Shenmue 3 and awhole lot of other 3's and 4's and this one was the most likely to get released.

Maybe things are different here, but I hadn't even heard of Duke Nukem Mobile II: Bikini Project. You're calling that successful?

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
Look the point is they were making/ or outsourcing games which were selling.
Which means they were bringing in Capital which was funding DNF, a couple of months back they released DN3D on XBLA, a critical and commerical hit from what I have read (I am aware those dumb asses didn't bother to enhance the graphics or sound at all).
Also with Sega well versed people were aware even before the launch of Dreamcast that they won't be in the hardware bussiness for too long (but then again Sega is a 100 times larger organization then 3D-Realms), how is it that 3D-Realms closure is a shock to even those working close with the company?
In other news a DNF Video is released showing some 3D-Max concepts and in-game footage: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YLHALVVM
It looked absoloutely amazing and the best FPS thing I have seen but the problem is my last proper FPS experience was on the Dreamcast and playing a bit of The Darkness on 360, so someone more versed with FPS tell me how it looks.

Cell phone games don't count.Skynet wrote:Maybe things are different here, but I hadn't even heard of Duke Nukem Mobile II: Bikini Project. You're calling that successful?
If any of that is really in-game, hell yeah, it looks sweet.BILAL_XIA wrote:In other news a DNF Video is released showing some 3D-Max concepts and in-game footage: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YLHALVVM

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
After watching the video multiple times, I realized that the gameplay video is from diffirent stages of development, in some scenes the enemies look more detailed and have shadows where as in others they are less detailed and lack shadows.

Re: 3D Realms closes doors
Take Two tried filing an injunction to prevent any any more work on DNF (kind of hard to do, considering it's only Brussard and Miller there now), which was denied. Take Two has now filed a lawsuit claiming they had paid 3DR $20 million and had received nothing in return (which I would side with them on).
So, here is how I see it playing out:
- Take Two gets the rights to finish developing DNF, releases it, and it is a steaming pile of shit. No one wants this.
- 3D Realms keeps DNF, continues to work on it forever until they again, no longer have money and "completely" shut down, at which point Brussard will take all work done with him to the grave, at the same time issuing a statement like "I'll be continuing to work on it in my parents basement". No one wants this either.
It's unfortunate that the only person to ever play it is Jace Hall, and he said it was the best game he'd ever played, and it was in more finished a state than most games he's played in quite a while.
