Chinese Democracy

Post by S. Thompson »

If you're a Guns 'n' Roses fan or just a rock music enthusiast, you probably know the incredibly drawn-out timeframe over which this album has been created. I believe its recording started somewhere in the mid-90s. Well, it's finally coming out in a few days and the album is completely streamable from the band's myspace: http://www.myspace.com/gunsnroses

I'm not standing up for or bashing the album. I just want to know what everyone's thoughts are on the matter. It's definitely going to be remembered for the hype/long wait if nothing else.

I haven't listened to the entire album completely through yet, but I like "There Was a Time" and "I.R.S." a lot. I need to listen to the rest though.
It's thinking...

It's alright, I wouldn't say it's worth the millions spent on it, but I've heard worse albums this year

I heard Civil War (I think that's the name), and I thought it sounded pretty GnR so I was happy.

I'll probably check out the stream and see how it goes.

Civil War was on their last album(s) Use Your Illusion 1 or 2. I have listened through Chinese Democracy, Shacklers Revenge, and Better and really like each of the tracks. It is pretty cool seeing this album actually happen since the time between this and the last one spans most of life (even though I learned of its existence around a year ago).

EDIT: I just listened to Madagascar and realized they took the speech thing from the beginning of Civil War and threw it in the middle of the song mixed with MLK's dream speech. I thought it was another solid track.

Ah, then my local radio station has douchebags working for it then. Because they would talk up Chinese Democracy, then play Civil War.

horrible bands, but they at least do a decent job at pretending to feel what they're singing. not just making horrible noise resulting in mild annoyance for miles.

I'd chop off "Rhiad and the Bedouins" and change some bits in "Better" and "Scraped", but still, it's a very good album. I especially liked the ballads. "This I Love" is simply wonderful. 4 out of 5.

Um. Use Your Illusion (I and II) were not their last album(s). Spaghetti Incident was six years later. :)

It's not Guns N' Roses anymore.

Don't waste your money on this piece of shit. Most of the songs were leaked years ago, and they suck.

Im surprised they didnt push the free Dr. Pepper more, but I am even more surprised at the small window of time they are allowing people to sign up and get their free Dr. Pepper. At least they stayed true to their words.
