New DS model planned

Nintedo plans to add a camera and a music player (along with a memory card reader). The press release is planned for October 2nd.

Thought it was pretty interesting, thought you guys might wanna hear about it before it gets popular.

I will believe it if they announce it the 2nd. They really dont seem to have a source for saying that there will be a new ds model.

A camera seems very unecessary though.

I can already play movies and music on my Wii and plug in micro sd's what is the excitement?

If the camera is under < 3 Mega Pixels it is useless, If they have a 5 Megapixel camera then maybe i'll consider it, I do need to buy a camera.

I thought this was just a rumor as of now? I don't doubt it in the slightest as N has put out a new model of their hand held every two years since the original Gameboy. I was waiting on getting a DS as I have seen first hand how the design for the DS lite is flawed and when they break. Maybe this version will be the answer I am looking for.

doesn't seem much of an update if you have a flashcard, I mean a camera, really? I have a shitty one on my phone I don't use, I'm even less likely to use one on this. If anything the fact that this doesn't play GBA games means it's a downgrade. Lazy cash-in.

they got rid of the GBA slot? Retarded. I was looking forward to the new model as the DSlite has a flawed design. Ive seen em break twice by those who keep theirs in good care. I was pissed with the DS lite also that the GBA games stuck out, they should have waited longer so they could make it all fit in one package. Now they got rid of it all together. worthless.

I think the point of this update is to help paint the flashcard market as a piracy tool. With little reason to get a flashcard other than piracy, they can more easily eliminate them. Or something.

While I used the DS purely for DS games I am not to upset over the abscence of a GBA slot, but then again it didn't even play GBC games.

That would've been better than trying to convince me that a Nintendo-branded 0.3MP camera with no focus and flash is the answer to my digital photography needs. From what I can see - this camera's only major function is to take photos.

Seems like they just slapped on some cheap and easy media features to get some more sales from the convergence crowd.

Not only that, but their "DSiWare Downloadable Content" has just completely alienated the 81million DS users that already exist. Upgrading consoles with different features is something I've got used to - but now you're telling me there will probably be DS games I can't buy and can't play? Fantastic.

Yeah, removing Slot 2 is weird. I don't know if it's part of some grand Nintendo strategy to kill off the GBA platform or just a dumb decision. Either way, it waters down the DS platform by obsoleting all the Slot 2 peripherals (I know there weren't that many official ones, but still). Hopefully DS Lite will stick around for a while...

There was an official camera and MP3 player.

Plus games like Guitar Hero won't work - nor will the supposed sequel next year and trading between Pokemon games is no longer possible.

I assume the plan is to sell GBA games as downloadable content - which would roll fine on a new system, but as it stands it seems Nintendo are asking me to give them money to "upgrade" my console so I have the privilege of re-buying games that I already own and could previous play.

They might keep DS Lite and sell the DSi as a more expensive deluxe model.
I mean, they really couldnt just sell the new one when games that require Slot 2 are being released.

Through EZFlash we could play MP3, Watch Movies... The only thing new is a camera but didn't we already have one for the GameBoyAdvance?
