How many Dreamcasts do you own? Condition? Accessories?

Post by TechnoWolf »

I saw this on the UK sister site, didn't notice it after a search here, sorry if this is already out there......here it goes:

3 NTSC DC's. All from Ebay. 2 used, and 1 sealed new in box.
One in "fair condition" that has ugly-sounding loading. I'll probably give this one to my sister-in-law soon. Other used one is in great condition.
The new one I'm keeping for a distant-future rainy day when you can't find a Dreamcast even on ebay to save your life. I'll replace the used ones as needed until they become impossible to find anymore (will this ever happen in our lifetimes???? You can still find used Atari 2600's after all.)

2 new Madcatz "official Sega licensed" controllers. (the one I've been using...4 hours total already has a jamming issue with the analog stick).
4 original dreampad controllers, 2 used, 2 new.
3 VMU's. 2 new, 1 used.
5 controller 6' extension cables.
1 new in box Dreamcast keyboard.

I guess I'm just curious to see if people think like me, and worry about "dropping the driveshaft" out of their only Dreamcast, and being left with tons of games, and nothing to play them on.

This could easily evolve into the subtopic of how long the life expectancy of a new Dreamcast is, and why/how. Anyone have stats on this??

1 Sega Dreamcast, great condition
1 Sega Broadband Adapter (waiting for it to arrive)
2 Sega Controllers, in great need of being cleaned
2 Sega VMUs, need cleaning
2 Sega Jump Packs, need cleaning
1 Sega Memory card, needs cleaning
1 Sega keyboard

I want to get a VGA/S-video Box as soon as I can, and later on possibly a Mic, Mouse, Lightgun, Fishing Rod, and Wheel... would be cool to have all the accessories.
It's thinking...

1 broken NTSC DC. It doesn't recognize anything and doesn't output video.
1 european PAL DC. It works fine, but only reads CD-Rs.
3 official controllers
1 Quantum Fighter Pad controller (ironically, it sucks for fighting games)
1 mouse
1 keyboard
2 official VMUs
1 unnoficial VMU (no screen)
2 unnoficial 800-block VMUs (no screen)
1 unnoficial jump pack
1 VGA & S-Video box

I also have 3 broken unnoficial controllers, a pink pirate controller (looks exactly like an official controller), and a white pirate controller which I don't remember if still works.

Unnoficial and pirate controllers are a waste of money. Unfortunately I couldn't tell the difference between a pirate controller and an original one back then.

What is that?? I recently bought an "S-Video" adapter cord that looks just like the standard RCA cord, but has the extra S-video out, and it doesn't work at all.

I currently own and use two working Dreamcasts. Set up right next to my PC, one (JP NTSC, mod chipped for playing games from all region) is hooked up to my VGA monitor and my stereo for playing and testing DCEvolution releases.

The other one (standard EU PAL) is plugged into my (tiny) TV near my bed. :)

Then I got another working Dreamcast. It's an US NTSC Revision 2 Dreamcast from late 2000 so it does not read CDRs* and I don't have too many original US games... a lot of two games to be exact: Bomberman Online and Samba De Amigo.

* while refurbished ones from SEGA Direct JP do work with CDRs

I use to buy broken Dreamcasts from ebay, some recent ones are still waiting to be fixed. They go for 1-15 Euros and usually are very easy to get working again (adjusting the laser, replacing the controller port, etc.). The next one I fix will be the one for my big TV in our living room. :)

I also have a few original controllers all with rumble pack and VMUs, two official Sega Agetec Arcade Sticks (plus 1 brandnew one in box) that I use for 2D fighters and shmups, various PS1/PS2/Sega Saturn Total Control converters (the Saturn ones I bought for GenesisPlusDC :)), a keyboard and now a set of maracas for Samba De Amigo. Next on my list is a dance mat ^^

It allows you to plug your DC into any PC monitor or HDTV. Looks even much better than RGB.

3 x PAL consoles - unmodded - standard cream cases (1 with very dodgy GD-ROM drive)
1 x BBA adapter
5 x Standard DC controller - cream case
1 x DC Keyboard
1 x DC Mouse
1 x DC PAL light gun
1 x DC Microphone
1 x soft dance mat - 3rd party
1 x VMU - 3rd party
7 x DC VMU - cream case
1 x coders cable
5 x 2m controller extensions
1 x DragonCast serial-serial connector

I think thats all of it.

I borrowed a DC from a friend who didn't use it. I learnt to program for it using KOS and then I bought it from him. That's the one with the failing GD-ROM (I might be able to tweak the laser)
I bought 2 more 2nd hand from a chain of game stores. One at my development station (used to use coder's cable, now use BBA) the other is on my TV.
The Mouse came from an Amazon Z-shop
The BBA came from Ebay
The VMUs Controllers and Microphone came from the game store (2nd hand)
Everything else came from the sadly missed Lik-Sang and from Play-Asia
Oh my god, he's one of those cyborgs.

Luckily he's on our side.

I wouldn't call them our sister site but....

I have 3, only 1 works. I use the other 2 for spares when doing mods. Although I haven't done anything for awhile now.

Where did you find your 'clear red' mod case, which I assume you bought and just swapped shells? (If you don't mind me asking). Could you post a pic?
Impressive, Genetik! Wow.
