I have one, unmodded. I prefer not to mod systems, why I like the Dreamcast. Heck, if it were easier to make a Linux loader and movie player for the DC.... I'd use net play cause it's cheaper.

MP3's are easy to stream. I mean divx/xvid.

DCDivx suggestions

While DCDivx has a lot of promise (A lot more than other players), there is one thing I would love to see in a Divx player for the DC: network play. Instead of spending time recording a CD for each and every show/movie I have, those with the BBA can run the files they want via their own computer. Si...

on a system people claim is slower than a 286? People aren't saying that. The main point is that DOS is made for an x86 chip. The Dreamcast uses an SH4 chip. In order to emulate DOS, we have to first emulate a PC. Try doing that without any sort of rewritable media, other than RAM. That is about wh...

but one says that it is actually using wince to power it, the BE-300 is probably using a version of wince to power it, that has been modified to its own uses, whereas the DC has its own os that is independant of wince, but can run some modded wince programs. either that or it is just some shift in ...

actually no, powered by wince implies that it uses win ce, compatible with implies it isnt wince but can use some of the same stuffs. But, the BE-300 has the 'powered by windows ce' logo, and has no Win CE OS on it. It has an OS modded to be a day planner, which uses Win CE specific codes. It can r...

why do people always think that if something will run on a 200MHz pentium that it will run on a DC? it makes me question whether anyone is absorbing the fact that clock speed dosnt mean very much when you are talking about processors made specifically for a certain function. WINDOWS CE OPERATING SY...

Shilar - A few problems there. First, Windows CE is technically a real operating system. It is capable of doing all the requisite resource management, along with running multiple processes, and all that stuff. On PocketPC machines, the OS is actually replacable. For example, people have replaced Wi...

That's why the "(comparatively)" was in there. It's designed primarily as a games machine. The hardware is primarily geared toward the things that 3D games need to do a lot of - floating point, vector and matrix calculations on large geometry sets, 3D rendering, movie decoding, multi-chan...

If that were true, the PocketPC and Palm format would have died long ago. DC is just an overglorified PocketPC, and they have DOS on it, as well as a fast Linux, that can run a lot of programs.

Well, Maclinux is supposed to run all PC linux titles, just being on a Mac. Then I gues instead of wasting energy making a Linux OS for DC, we need DC dos.

Personally, a Dos emulator for DC would be very cool. A 2-386 emu would be perfect to run most old classic games, where the most RAM required was 2-4 megs. Heck, if it were possible, make it autorun, so the program wouldn't need to be loaded after the program started (via autoexec I bet :) ).

So, no PC linux games or apps will run on DC linux, despite the fact that most linux apps are non-chip reliant (Mac Linux can run PC Linux apps and games)?

Also, Knoppix will work on both IBMs and Macs, as I have heard.

Question involving DCLinux

I know I sound so newbie to Linux ideas, but is it possible to burn the disc with the game/apps/etc you'd like, or to switch discs and autorun them in a Linux setting?

Also, does Knoppix work for DC, or is it built only for IBM/Pentium computers?

DCLinux help

My main question is: How does one run programs other than what's on the Linux CD, in Linux? I'd love to try running PyDDR or even Mugen.

/me drags himself out for the once every few months DCemu post... :) Why don't I make one? Simple, I have -very- little programming experience (I only worked in Turbo Pascal and HTML, and that was years ago), and right now am working more in 3D graphic art (Poser renders, trying to learn Bryce). So...

Be shocked, most DDR pads for the DC are about the same price as the PSX adaptors. :)

Shilar, why dont you just fudge off, learn how to code, make your OWN goddamn DDR clone, and then jump around on a dance pad like an idiot. Or, failing that, get a PS2 and just play the real version, whilst jumping around on a dance pad like an idiot. The PS2 only has 1-2 DDRs, the maxes, and they ...

Give me a break. it should not be too hard to make a REAL DDR sim Hey man, if you think it shouldn't be too hard (which it shouldn't, right? right????), why don...

And note, my setup was more along the lines of the DC (550Mhz CPU with a Kyro II GPU and 128 megs of memory is NOT recommended for gaming), and it handled a lot of things very smoothly. Actually, The Kyro blew away the Geoforce 2 in a lot of the rendering, but its main prob is overheating. This in m...
