Considering heavily putting linux on my laptop (IBM Thinkpad T22 which actually was built with linux in mind), and I'm just wondering which distro to run. I want something that looks good (KDE, I really don't know what makes linux look good or how to make it look good), and something stable as well.
Also something easy to set up would be wonderful -- I've been looking into Mandriva, but I cna't really pay for it. Anybody know some good free distros of Linux that would suit me well?
Thanks in advance,
Ken

I've read in a computer mag that Ubuntu is "the Linux that even your grandma can use." Worth checking out, I guess, especially because they send CDs for free and you don't even have to pay for the shipping costs.

Ubuntu is linux for human beings, but you can try Fedora. Fedora is really easy to use but not so great when it comes to just having what you want instead of installing a ton of extra crap.

first have a look at knoppix since it'll run directly from cd. You can try out different window/desktop manager (however this is called, like KDE, Gnome and Windowmaker) and think about what you prefer.
