I guess this means I won't be reading IGN any more. I don't care whether they leave everything exactly as it is. I will not support anything owned by Rupert Murdoch...I don't trust that man any more than I'd trust my dog to guard a steak.News Corp, owned by Rupert Murdoch, has bought out online gaming network IGN Entertainment in a massive $650 million acquisition. The network runs sites like Gamespy, Fileplant, TeamXbox and 3D Gamers and its main target audience is the 18-30 male gamer market. Apparently Murdoch had some loose change left over after he bought 5 other online sites including MySpace.com. The total hits/month for News Corp?s online presence now reaches over 12 billion hits per month.
IGN CEO, Mark Jung will stay on to run the network under its new owners (link courtesy of Murdoch?s Fox network, yeah, he owns that too). According to a Financial Times article, Murdoch had previously been sceptical about going online. But I guess he must believe in it now, he?s only gone and set aside a total of $2 Billion for getting his feet into the medium.

I hate Gamespot they rate games poorly, the only reason I liked IGN was the way everything is set up. They been here since the nintendo days of "GamePlayers" its really, really sad to see them go. the only thing cool about gamespot is the free trailers other then that, I HATE GAMESPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Video reviews is a great feature. Also, the $20 a year isn't bad at all.Dreamcast4life wrote:I hate Gamespot they rate games poorly, the only reason I liked IGN was the way everything is set up. With $20 I can get some serious sushi, but it's still charged to my mom's credit card so I don't care.Dreamcast4life wrote:But with that $20 you could buy a large pizza for yourself and some NES or SNES titles, then watching reviews!Tall Israeli wrote:Video reviews is a great feature. The main reason is just because IGN has become such a big name that they get a lot of exclusive information. They quite often get info and screenshots before anyone else. It's not like I subscribe to them; I just use the free stuff. But now, I'm just going to ignore them and get my news elsewhere...for example, independent sites like the Advanced Media Network .

Re: IGN-No-More
But you'll pay to see a 21st Century Fox production in theaters and watch Fox television (or FX), B? Ever bought a box-set of one of their shows?DaMadFiddler wrote:I guess this means I won't be reading IGN any more. I don't care whether they leave everything exactly as it is. Use Directv or DishNetwork?
Come off it.
