Translating Dreamcast games

Basically this is what happen i recently got a japanese dreamcast game, and i want to translate it. Basically what i want to do is get some experience in doing this kind of thing so my question is how do i ripp the text out of the game and then what kind of issues will i face in changing it. Oh yah i want to rip the text out of a cdi. As much information as i can get would be much appreciated.

Expect this to get locked unless you're talking about a homebrew Japanese game. This would involve ripping the game and then backing it up. Discussion of such things isn't allowed here.

He already mentioned that its a CDI... means he downloaded it off the net... this is definitely past iffy...
