Recently bought a 1983 OldsNinety Eight Regency Brougham

Post by Calavera »

I don't know how many car people are on this forum, but thought someone might be interested in seeing this. About a month ago I bought a 1983 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency Brougham. The interior looks like brand new. The guy I bought it from owned it since 1996 and said he didn't think anyone has sat in the back seat for probably 15 years! :o He told me the transmisison had recently been rebuilt, has a new heater core, new windshield wiper motor, new exhaust. It has the 307 V8 with around 260,000 miles on it. Here are a few pics of it.

Now for the price I paid. For this car I paid $500. A great deal imo!

How well does it run?

That's a badass looking interior, especially for $500!
It's thinking...

It runs great, rides smooth. The speedometer doesn't work is about the only problem. I just use a GPS to tell my speed.

so I have to ask why you bought this; It seems like a good deal for a car in that quality, but is there any reason that drew you buy that particular model? Or do you just like old american cars?

PS- I am a car guy. Doing a brake job on my car this week and I have been flirting with the idea to buy an old rally beater with a roll cage already installed.

I just like old american cars and for that price I couldn't pass it up, and , my dad used to have a car like this only his was maroon and had the 350 diesel. I've always wanted a car like this for myself. I still drive my Lumina most of the time because it is much better on gas, so far I've put about 450 miles or so on the Oldsmobile.

Also I wasn't seeking out a car like this, I just kind of stumbled onto it. It was sitting in someones yard for sale on a road I rarely drive on. When I seen it I stopped to look at it just to see if it was a diesel. I figured they would want more for it then I wanted to pay, but the people came out while I was looking at it. I took it for a test drive offered $500 and the rest is history!
