Neverwinter Nights issue?

Post by Skynet »

So I got the game for basically nothing so I figured I'd give it a go. I am having issues while playing it though.
I can create a character just fine, but as soon as I start and try to talk to someone the game crashes. This also happens to a friend and apparently the problem can be solved by turning sound off. Although that seems like one way of playing the game, I'd rather not play without audio. Is there an known issue to do with audio and crashing in NWN?

I'll give a more detailed explanation if needed later, am about to head out.

Thanks

I never experienced that problem, but I know that the game was bugged like any other Atari PC game so be sure to update all the patches. There's been quite a few over the years. Even last year a big one was released.

Update didn't fix the issue, but it did fix the "insert play disc" issue as it no longer requires the disc.

However I did find something interesting. It's a cheap game, the "heroes" edition. It's kinda like the platinum games you see on PS2 or whatever. Turns out that it's actually missing the conversation files, hence crashing when talking to someone.

The fix can be found here as this is the file containing all the conversations.

So, problem fixed. If anyone else was experiencing this issue, that should fix it.
