Google Hacked?

Post by Specially Cork »

We're sorry...

... but we can't process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.

Sounds a little like a Denial Of Service attack.

Its working again now. I have no idea why they were blaming my computer, because my virus checker is virus free.

Cant figure out if it was a legit warning or something evil.

What did you search for? Generally, Google shows that when some virus / worm / whatever is trying to use Google to find vulnerable websites to infect, like the recent(ish) phpBB worm that went around. It may also show that if it's been getting a lot of those kind of requests from the same network you're on.

Thinking about it, it's kinda irresponsible of them to say your computer is infected with a virus, without even explaining that you may have just searched for a word that they are currently blocking.

It says your computer or network appears to have been affected. It's not just that you're searching for a word that they're blocking. They'd (presumedly) been getting similar requests from your domain. It's not everyone -- assuming they're still blocking that search, it didn't affect me.

I got that a few days ago. I don't remember what I was searching for. But then later another kid in the same class (Comp Science) got the same error.

Weird.

It used to work. I tried "phpBB" and that was blocked, but tried "phpbb" twice and it worked. Now it's blocked though.

Meh.

A week is not so bad, I had to reprimand someone a couple of weeks ago for repeatedly bumping three year old topics.
