Anyone her ever try Windows Vista?

Post by donnonotin »

I "obtained" a copy of the latest beta (5259) but I can't quite get it to install 100%. Anyone here ever use it? I am curious to know what it is like. From some screenshots I have seen it looks pretty nice.

I tried Beta 1 and I can honestly say it's awful. It somehow broke itself after a few reboots.

There are some usefull GUI enhancements, then there are a ton of useless (but sorta pretty) GUI enhancements.

Really though... as far as new functionality... no.
It's thinking...

Because you have to have an MSDN subscription in order to download the Vista beta.

*yawn* Windows still has a very boring GUI.

You expect it to jump out of the screen and entertain you?

My friend had one of the original beta releases, and I believe he got the CD in the mail from MS.

I really should leave Windows in the dust but my work really requires me to stay on top of the latest Windows technologies. Maybe I should just change professions, seriously. I'm sick of programming for money.

When I think of WIndows Vista this is what comes to mind.

What the hell has MS been doing for the past 5 years it's been in development? All of the 'great new' features have been dropped... well not all, but what kindof things are left?

Also, I believe this is a complete re-write of the system code, which drops all legacy code... is that correct or am I just making that up? I really don't know too much about it other than that GIANT CLOCK IN THE SIDEBAR is such a great idea!... you know, because fake analog clocks need to take up that many pixels.....

I'm pretty sure that got dropped years ago.
