its leveno thinkpad now. IBM sold it(or something like that).

you post suggested some form of design work so i would imagine a mac might be better suited for that. look at what you need to use it for, i've recently messed around with osx on my desktop and i like it a lot.

For design? Mac, hands down. When you start using multiple programs at once, the PC will bog down while the Mac will remain efficient. A PC will take one program running and make it run very well, but a Mac can handle multiple programs running simultaneously, with much less slowdown than a PC. And if you are doing professional design and have the entire Creative Suite open trying to transport files from one Adobe program to another, you will be glad you have the Mac.

Go for the Mac, try out OS X if you haven't yet.

But I'm telling you now, do yourself a favor and wait a month -- new iBooks are probably going to be announced at MacWorld January...12th or something. The Intel iBooks are supposed to be thinner, and possibly even have instant startup :-)

Or if you can get a deal on a used/refurbed ibook to hold you over, Macs retain their value sooooo much better than PCs, you may not even lost any money if you get one now and sell it when IntelBooks come out.

If you give it the time, OS X will become so robust. I put a new Finder in and it is stellar.

Mac qualities:
- best user interface
- quality hardware
- rock-solid, Unix-based operating system
- no known virus, spyware, or trojan

Mac problems:
- has less apps
- some incompatible hardware

Windows-based PC qualities:
- has more apps
- more hardware compatible

Windows-based PC problems:
- inferior interface
- tons of viruses, spywares, and trojans

That's it: unless you really need a Windows app for which there is no OSX equivalent, getting a Mac prevents a ton of headache.

Powerbook. Or, if not enough money, iBook. I adore OS X.

Just want to add, apps on OS X are more quality over quantity than Windows' quantity over quality :)

Because we all know all of the hottest games are released on Mac first.

Seriously, you have to be kidding if you think of the Mac as a viable gaming platform. The amount of games available for it pales dramatically in comparison to the PC. New games are not released for Mac until six months or a year later, if at all. The only games that I can think of that work on both OS' straight out of the box are Blizzard's. F.E.A.R.? Civilization IV? Good luck sparky.

There are many reasons to buy a Mac, but if gaming is a big one, then a Mac is not for you.

That being said, for what you sound like you're gonna be doing, I'd definately get a Powerbook/iBook over a Windows based Laptop. They're really quite nice, and for web browsing/light work, the upkeep on the Mac will be less of a pain in the ass.
Very sexy hero, omg

yes yes there's a few games. Nothing compared to the library that is the pc game library. I have a mac. a Dual g5 box. I got it with the intention of migrating to it. That never happened. Wanna know why? Not enough games. Or rather.. None of the games that I liked.

Damn... I didn't want to turn this into a debate,

but for some people that really like PC games, a PC box is good for them. It is nearly the only advantage WIndows boxes have, but if you are primarily a console gamer (like me), then it really does not matter.

And Wagh, I'm curious as to why you went with a top of the line Mac when you wanted to game with it... you had to know that gmaing was nearly nonexistant? I'm also curious as to if you liked OS X at all, because you seem to be primarily sticking to your PC *only* because of the games? I'll take that crappy Mac off your hands if you're not using it ;)

Edit: Thanks Pixel... this app seems a little different, but definately has more features. If they could have cleaned up the GUI a little bit it'd be stellar, but I'll see how I can get accustomed to it in the 3 week free trial. Can't wait for 10.5 with the rumored 'new' finder :)

doesn't matter anyway, your not going to get a good gaming experience on a laptop anyway.

I liked OS X but having no right click persay was a real killer to me. Also I never seemed to have luck in where i placing my icons and where I was installing software. Another thing annoyance I had was that I could never seem to find a decent ftp client. Right now the mac is sitting in my dorm. Unplugged and dormant. I had it chock full of mp3's but I've been too lazy to hook it up so I can listen. So I've been using my other pc to stream tunes. That'll be it's purpose unless I can find some must have app for it. Which I doubt. Another turn off was a lot of the mac community. There's a lot of you who are decent people and have souls. But the rest of them God damn. It was almost as bad as the damned linux zealots.
