Happy Thanksgiving (US)
Just wanted to wish everyone here a happy Thanksgiving. Might seem stupid, but there it is...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving (US)
Best thanksgiving ever, because it's also my 21st birthday. Time to get fucked up--legally.
It's thinking...

A thanksgiving prayer by William S. Burroughs.
Thanks for the wild turkey and
the passenger pigeons, destined
to be shit out through wholesome
American guts.
Thanks for a continent to despoil
and poison.
Thanks for Indians to provide a
modicum of challenge and
danger.
Thanks for vast herds of bison to
kill and skin leaving the
carcasses to rot.
Thanks for bounties on wolves
and coyotes.
Thanks for the American dream,
To vulgarize and to falsify until
the bare lies shine through.
Thanks for the KKK.
For nigger-killin' lawmen,
feelin' their notches.
For decent church-goin' women,
with their mean, pinched, bitter,
evil faces.
Thanks for "Kill a Queer for
Christ" stickers.
Thanks for laboratory AIDS.
Thanks for Prohibition and the
war against drugs.
Thanks for a country where
nobody's allowed to mind their
own business.
Thanks for a nation of finks.
Yes, thanks for all the
memories-- all right let's see
your arms!
You always were a headache and
you always were a bore.
Thanks for the last and greatest
betrayal of the last and greatest
of human dreams.
Lines join in faint discord and the Stormwatch brews

Re: Happy Thanksgiving (US)
Actually it was mostly the usual stuff. Food, visiting relatives, and TV were all on the agenda.
Someone watching Football in one room, some Thanksgiving special on in the other... The "rowdy drinking relatives", and the "stuffy" ones, were all present, etc.
This year I'm thankful for my health being good, and George W. Bush's presidency coming to an end.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving (US)
My Thanksgiving was canceled thanks to my hypochondriac aunt who swore that her liver stopped working. Her imaginary symptoms is going to get her killed one day when she really is sick and nobody believes her. But yeah, my entire family goes over to her house every year, and every year she complains about some crazy sickness she has, but has never completely canceled before. So instead we drove clear to Cincinnati to my wife's grandma's house and was scolded for being a half hour late, was forced to clean the spyware off her Windows ME computer, and tried to block out the yelling from my father-in-law over politics.
In all, it was a pretty crappy Thanksgiving.

Did that involve formatting the hard drive and installing Linux?melancholy wrote:was forced to clean the spyware off her Windows ME computer
My Thanksgiving was okay, but certainly not great. On Thursday, we spent the day with my mother-in-law at our house. We had turkey, gravy, sauerkraut, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and biscuits. Then, she had to go to work. Later, my sister-in-law and her husband came over for dessert. Unfortunately, we couldn't all spend the day together, because my sister-in-law is no longer on speaking terms with my mother-in-law.
Then, we went to bed and woke up at 3 a.m. to get ready for shopping. We spent most of the day running around to every store in Winchester (about 15 minutes south of our house) and a few in Martinsburg (about 15 minutes north of our house). When we were done with that, my wife took all of our packages over to her sister's house so that we could store them, while I took a very short nap.
Finally, we headed over to my parents' house where we had another Thanksgiving dinner.
