Recycling caps and reiststors

Post by jaredfogle »

I'm modding one of my guitar pedals but right now I'm farming a couple of old tape decks for resistors and capacitors, is this a bad idea? I'm new to this stuff--don't feel like going to Radio Shack today.
Where's toastman? I'm bored.

Not necessarily a bad idea, although keep in mind that electrolytic caps (the kind that look like metal canisters) tend to lose their capacitance somewhat over the years, so they'll tend to be lower than what you'd get with new caps of the same rating.
