Re: PSO V2 JP questions
The price of BBAs has reportedly increased recently due to (false) rumours of other Dreamcast games coming online again, so you're going to have to pay about $200 for one now. $150 is the minimum at present. It may be worth your while to get a copy of USv2, as it's dirt cheap and has fewer bugs than...

Re: New DC Player
Most people use broadband and don't want to pay an extra monthly fee for dial-up access. If you only have one phone line, you may also not want to prevent people from calling you while you play. Some people even opt not to pay for phone service at all and use VOIP or cell service exclusively instead.

Re: pso.exe on linux
I believe if you're using Wine, you need the Vista/7 typing patch to be able to talk. Also, if by "original" pso.exe, you mean the one that the game installs for you, be aware that it's more primitive than the updated ones and behaves more like the Dreamcast version. If you quit the game w...

Re: New DC Player
Are you using Linux? That seems to be the most stable/reliable method, aside from using Windows 98.

Re: Freeze in "Temple" of the DC player
This seems to be a bug in JPv2 that Sega fixed in USv2, EUv2, and PC. I tested all Dreamcast discs; both USv2 and EUv2 can use Photon Blasts in Palace. JPv2 cannot use Photon Blasts in Palace, or the animation gets stuck and loops forever. You don't actually FSOD though, so you can quit the game fro...

Re: New to PSO online, but been offline for 7 years.
Making a more stable compatibility mode for DC/PC and GC is on the list of things to do, but it would sadly require a huge amount of time and work (and probably another 50 - 100 revisions) to make it stable enough to use safely. The games are so different that many layers of conversion and protectio...

Re: Got myself PSO on BBA!
BlueCrab's trying to find a bug in the shipgate at present, so maybe it's related to that? It can also happen if you get disconnected, but the server doesn't notice because you're lagging. In that instance, you need to wait about 2 minutes for the server to realize you're gone.

Re: Got myself PSO on BBA!
You should also be aware that it's even harder to find people to play with on Ver.1, because it has less content than Ver.2 does. You can only reach level 100, you can't go past Very Hard mode, and you can't play Battle or Challenge modes. Most of the people who still play PSO do things that you can...

Re: Connecting on PSOPC
http://psopalace.sylverant.net/downloads_pc.html You can pick the executable you want to use from there. If you're on Vista/7, you need the corresponding executable to be able to type normally. Be aware that if you use it, you won't be able to type in any language other than English. If that's not a...

Re: Finally: Connected to Sylverant via DC/PC cable
I don't know, errors in the transmission could lead to incorrect data written to the VMU perhaps. I remember I got those fat chars after being disconnected from the server. That was on Schthack though. The only way data errors occur when saving to the VMU is if the controller cable is faulty, and t...

Re: Finally: Connected to Sylverant via DC/PC cable
I lost two chars(which became ugly ID-less name-less fat RAmars) because of that connection. That doesn't make much sense, since a connection method can't corrupt a character. The only thing that would happen as a result of a bad connection is that you would get disconnected a lot, but as long as y...

Re: Screenshots Thread
Be careful when replacing textures. PVR textures have multiple formats, and if you don't use the right ones, you can cause transparency glitches, or worse. Be aware also that PSO wasn't designed to use high-resolution files, so if you increase the resolution of the textures, you may cause the game t...

Re: Sylverant Feature Suggestions
The filter is part of the client in PC, so the server can't disable it. If you want to disable it, download this program, run it, and patch your pso.exe file to disable the filter.

Re: New Insane IDEA! (Sylverant PSO Patcher)
Since the reasons for writing the patcher in assembly might not be obvious for non-programmers, I'll add that when you write a program in a language like C and compile it into machine code, the way the compiler interprets your commands and converts them into machine code can sometimes lead to the pr...

Re: Iselia
The player list counts everyone, but DC/PC and GC players cannot see each other's teams, and Choice Search is also sadly won't let you see players of the opposite platform either, so it can appear to you as though there's a "ghost" user on the ship if you're on different platforms.

Re: New Insane IDEA! (Sylverant PSO Patcher)
Where do you propose to put the new files? Remember that the Dreamcast has a dinky amount of RAM, and all of it is used for various game files as you're playing a game, which means it can't be used for other things. Textures take up quite a bit of space, and there's nowhere to put them in the memory...

Re: VEGA "TTF++" = FSOD
Oh, you're not supposed to play it on GC. Even if you don't FSOD, it's impossible to beat De Rol Le, since you can't target him. The quest can FSOD you on PC in Mine 2, though.

I mentioned it to Impulse just yesterday, although I wasn't aware that DC also had problems with the quest.

Re: person of DC,Freeze on a Quest
All I know is that my Dreamcast and my JPv2 do not freeze if I load Lost HEAT SWORD when using the loader disc. Unless more players report this problem, it may be difficult to find the cause.
