VMU color palette (ARGB4444)
I can read 32x32 icon data from VMU save files, but for some reason I can't get the colors to display right. After a little research, I found that the Dreamcast uses ARGB4444 for the VMU color palette. I can't find documentation anywhere on what the ARGB4444 color palette is. All I've learned about ...

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that's not it. I can use a known good power supply and everything works as it should (well sort of. The main board won't display sound or video, but you can hear the GD-ROM read / spin up as if everything was going fine. It's odd because it's n...

The wrong way. :( With the power supply attached to the DC motherboard and the power running. Lead on ground and another on whichever output voltage I'm looking at. I forgot that it needs to be in series. Looks like I'll have to find some way to rig a breadboard inbetween the powersupply and motherb...

Haha, thanks rhubarb505. :D Yeah, if you hold the PCB up over a tracing light (or anything else, really) you can see it really clearly that (A) does go to ground. C55 routes to the 5V output. (K) does this wierd step-like jump. Here's a picture of the actual trace routes for that section: link . It ...

Nope... :| I bridged that middle lead (A) to ground and then tried it again, but it still does the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's down to components now. It's nice to see that it still kicks on and everything lights up, even if it is for only a second or two. It's like the little engine that could...

Hello again. Thanks for all of the replies. After really beefing up the ground trace with a two jumpers (one of which is a solid 12 / 13 gauge piece of of copper wire.) I powered it up and again it powered on and then shut off. I have gone over the board with a fine tooth comb (so to speak ;)), and ...

Here's a picture of my repairs and the jumpers I made. The jumpers are in red and the yellow is where the break occured. Actually, now that I look at it again, I could have used a better gauge on the ground trace. It connects some pretty major components and all I have is this little jumper. The tr...

Rebuilt Dreamcast power supply.
A couple years ago, I acquired a totaled Dreamcast and made it my goal to restore it to 100%. My biggest concern was that I might not be able to salvage the power supply. As you can see from this picture , the end of it had been broken off and was literally hanging by a jumper wire. After carefully ...

For $680 you're supposedly getting a machine with an unspecified processor and RAM configuration ... ? link Biometric game save and security feature That's about the only inventive part of the system. It's basically just an OK PC and they even acknowledge that. 3-D graphics I'd certainly hope the h...

How PSO ties itself to the Dreamcast (backup idea).
I think we all know that PSO ties itself to a single Dreamcast itself, but my question is how? If anyone knows, please select the right "scenario" below: scenario a: The Dreamcast is given a serial / mac address-like ID at the factory. PSO takes this ID number and verifies it against an en...

It will do individual file copying from VMU to VMU, but you have to do it from the PC. It works like this: To copy an entire VMU to another blank VMU, plug both VMUs into the unit and hit the red button on top. That's all there is to it. To do it via PC, plug in both VMUs and the PC 25-pin parallel ...
