Re: Mac <-> DC Programmer Thread

Damn it's been a while. So I'm back and trying to get a new toolchain set up again, this time in Leopard. I haven't done this in years and I haven't kept up with the DC scene at all since then. I got a few questions. Is GCC 3.x still common? Has anyone tried any newer (really new) versions, or do th...

Well, since it's running CDs instead of the proprietary GD discs it's designed for, your disc drive probably won't last quite as long. But that's really it, unless you start tinkering around inside it. I've always wondered where this piece of information came from. Was this something Sega announced...

I'll second the lower speed idea. I had issues using mine at 115200 bps, complete with errorless failed transfers. It started working again when I reduced the transfer speed.

I've never done any programming for Windows, so I can't help you there, but if you're interested in OOP, especially if you're interested in developing for OS X, Objective C is a breeze. It's not perfect (no language is), but it's pretty easy to learn, and certainly up to the task. And Cocoa is /gre...

I've gathered that you had to have been a licensed Sega developer to get the Dreamcast version of Codewarrior (it came with the Katana developer kit). They show up on eBay on occasion, though they usually end up becoming too expensive to be worth buying. That issue aside, I don't doubt that executab...

Nice job, DX. You sound like a whiny four year old in a temper tantrum. You're hardly in any position to demand anything from anyone here since you have paid for nothing you have recieved (the only exception to this being Feet of Fury, but since you're being such an immature child Dan probably would...

DemoniusX, why don't you actually run off and make this super revolutionary game of yours instead of whining about how much everyone else's stuff sucks? Far better use of your time, I would think.

All I want to know is why you haven't been kicked off the forums yet.

Are you sure that's not in reference to CD-RW discs? Evidently they can only be erased so many times before they stop working properly, and searching on Google for "up to 999 times" brings up a lot of results from CD-RW drive feature lists.

The NES must be more popular than the Dreamcast, otherwise Gamestop would be phasing it out instead. They're just going with what's profitable, and clearly the Dreamcast is not. Having said that, I'm sad to see the mainstream stores dropping it. Now all that's left are independently owned game shops...

I noticed in a local Funcoland that they've moved all the Dreamcast games into a shoddy cardboard "discount bin" by the register that gives no indication as to what's inside. The former DC shelf is now filled with used Playstation games. I suspect that what's in the bin is the last of thei...

A lot of used video game stores sell them (unless you're terribly unlucky and none of the stores around you have any). Try eBay.

Also, in before lock :D

anyone tried to get sh-elf-gcc to do objective C yet? I've somehow gotten sh-elf-gcc and sh-elf-g++ and stuff built, but I haven't gotten as far as being able to test them, yet. I've been writing Dreamcast programs in Objective-C (best language ever  ). I've got a KOS version of libobjc avali...
