Can't the force of gravity affect the speed of light as well? Gravity won't affect the speed of light, but it does affect it's direction. This is how they figured out that space-time can be curved, because light can only travel in a straight line. But if you bend space, then light will bend with it...

speed of light varies with what it is passing through. There is some gas (I don't remember what) that when it is compressed just right and light is sent through it, light travels nearly twice c that (was it Einstein?) is generally thought of as the constant speed of light...as for slowing it down, ...

The speed of light in a vacuum is approximately 3 X 10^8 meters/second. As far as making light stop, in theory you can. Light is composed of a wavelength and a frequency. If two beams of light were to collide with their waves having the same amplitudes (let us say the value is 1), frequency, and wa...

That's called time travel. Actually Michael Crichton's Sphere (about time travel) was based on concepts of space/time bending similar to some described in this topic The Sphere was based on a US spaceship breaching a black hole, sending it back through time. Impossible in theory, but then again, ev...

well from what I hear, the leak has really crappy quality. Who knows, they might have just leaked a bad version of it themselves to get people more interested in buying the clear version.

Nope. The speed of light varies depending on what it has to pass through. They've even managed to stop light particles. and as if that wasn't enough, the've even sped it up. :o I'll see if I can dig up some articles. <edit>Here's the article about speeding up light: http://www.cnn.com/2000/TECH/spa...

Good news for the Xbox Homebrew scene!

Well, I quickly perused the site to see if anyone has posted this yet and didn't see it, so here it goes (if this has already been posted I apologize): An unmodded xbox has booted linux! Sounds rather mundane at first, but this means tons of possibilites for the xbox, as you won't have to break it o...

The only burns that I've been using are emus. Of course I bought this sysem used a few months ago so I can't say what has happened to it before. I've tried recalibrating the laser and it improved it a bit... I did have it sitting on the carpet before, I'll have to movie it somewhere else as I forgot...

ARRGH! Dreamcast keeps locking up!

Ok, so my dreamcast is having fits. When loading games it seems that sometimes the laser loses track of where it is, it sounds like it vibrates back and forth really quick a few times then the motor whirrs. It will do this about 3 times then continue loading. Once the game loads I can play a bit int...

What is worse than Sony is people trying to make money now on the Bleem!Team's beta work.

For some reason I don't think he is talking about EPSX (or however you spell the other C-written psx emu)...

Sony was definitely wrong in the whole matter. Emulators are not illegal. Actually, though I don't have the Playstation user contract, I am willing to bet there is a subject that says you can't reverse engineer it in an attempt to reproduce or alter its functionality of design. This clause which is...

Hey kraft, Have you tried KDE 3.1?? IT RRRRROOOOOCKSS!!! The version of Konquerer in KDE 3.1 has flash support!!!! And the fonts are fully antialiased, so browsing the SH4 PDFs in KDVI no longer hurts the eyes! Yup, thats the one I use. While it does have flash support, it is rather outdated, sligh...

Konqueror would be a lot better if macromedia would quit shafting us linux users and update the friggin linux flash players. Not to mention give us any sort of shockwave machine. Oh well. nymus, awesome post. I've been putting off setting up my dev enviroment for the lack of motivation to look all t...

you really don't need office or enterprise, as those have a lot of network, server and firewall crap you don't need. Get a home edition of any linux type, usually redhat is the easiest to install, I've been on redhat 7.1 for a while and have never had a problem with it. Just make sure when you insta...

yeah, sounds like you have your hand on an ethernet cable. Here are your options: buy the broadband adapter for way more than it is actually worth OR get a dialup ISP that isn't something goofy like AOL that needs a bootup program. Do realize that if you have broadband on your computer, getting on t...

Sooo... if it is such an easy port to do, why isn't Reaper coming out with a full speed SNES emu? Since he can obviously port this over with ease, I'd sure like to see him do it.

have you checked out portable monopoly's main webpage? Last time I looked there, there were screenshots and movies of it in action. Looks hella nice and it would save you from having to buy an SP.
