I'm so happy.

Post by Jeeba Jabba »

I'm so happy that Creative Assembly decided to submerge Empire: Total War, the game I've been looking forward to more than anything for the past 2 years, into the steaming pile of shit that is Steam. I was really hoping, since they announced it, that upon getting it I would experience constant crashing and shitty performance.

Thanks, guys.

Do people still hate steam? I think it's fantastic.

I like Steam. In fact, I try to integrate as many games as I can into Steam. No discs required, I can use it across both of my computers, the games are always updated, and I can just copy the Steam folder to any computer or partition and it takes off with no install required.

Well, it now seems like it's just the fact that myself and many others haven't had to use it since its early days when it actually was a pain in the ass, and that ETW is actually just buggy as fuck due to its own issues. The entire fanbase is counting down for any new updates that are so desperately needed.

Ah fair enough. Back when HL2 came out I couldn't stand steam. I thought it was the worst idea for distributing games. Now it works very nicely.

Yeah, Steam was REALLY awful when it was new, but it's quite solid now.

I haven't had a problem with steam in awhile. It's the only uniform way to game on PC's other than microsofts attempt with games for windows. And it runs very well on linux under WINE or Crossover so I am happy with it.

Hehe, I still remember when my brother came home from the store with that game. Three hours later I went to check it out... he was still installing it, cursing out steam :-)

Wasn't steam out before HL2? I thought it was released with CS 1.6

It was. But that's my worst memory of Steam. The HL2 launch REALLY sucked because of Steam. On dialup there was just no point

Yeah, most people don't remember Steam before HL2. It was really the software that pushed the Steam platform. And yes, Steam was terrible back then. I, like everyone else, hated that buggy piece of crap. But now it's a solid piece of software that has simplified my PC gaming life.

I need an update for this too badly. I'm sure they're scrambling like fucking monkeys, but I've waited too long for this game.

I had Steam back when Condition Zero came out, and it was a huge pile of ass. It's gotten much better since then, but I haven't used it in about a half year so I couldn't comment on it's current state.
