I came across a bug that appears serious.

Take a look at it, it appears that no matter what distro you are on linux could be destroying your HDD. I did the workarounds but I'm still pretty worried about it. Someone else try the check on their system and let me know if your load cycles are freakishly high. Or if I should be worried about this at all. I feel as if my HDD should last well over 2-4 years so that article is rather bothersome.

Either way I'm just trying to shed some light onto this issue to my fellow dcemu linux users. Good day. The importance is critical for Ubuntu users. I confirmed this problem on my dv6645us using 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. My laptop uses a Hitachi disk.

It is just that many of the laptop-modes do not change BIOS defaults. I think Mac and Windows do change them, so yeah. Debian fixed their laptop-tools package I think so now it's fixed. There are scripts and such for Ubuntu (in that bug report).
