Rockstar really needs to pull out all the stops to bring me back to GTA after playing Saints Row, but knowing Rockstar they probably will

And here we are. May as well bump this as the trailer will be out tomorrow!

Also according to GamesRadar:
Rockstar has promised that it won't just be some infuriatingly quick teaser. Instead, it'll offer up the first substantial look into what the game is all about, and internet speculation over what that might be has kicked the rumor mill into high gear.
I'm looking forward to it. Could very well be a system-seller for me.

It'll prolly be just as boring as 3 and VC became.

2 of my favourite ever games. Both easily in my All-time Top 20. Can't say the same for SA though... :(

I liked Vice City mainly just because of the overall theme really. Can't go wrong with anything involving the 80's. San Andreas was pretty good although I didn't care much for the rap/gangster theme. But the world size and overall fun of it was pretty good. I never did care for liberty city though.

Yeah, VC was my favorite of the 3. The theme was awesome, and the SA Gangster theme did absolutely nothing for me.

No idea what they're going to do with this new one...

People aren't bored of GTA yet?

If its high-res GTA3 engine, it'll be crap.

If they do something genuinely new, I'll withhold judgement.

What's special about Saint's Row? And I don't mean that in a smartass way, I mean it as a serious question. I played the demo and it felt exactly like a GTA game, is there more to it? Do people still play online?

Its a very competent GTA clone, with ragdoll physics and online.

Which is why GTA4 is going to have to have something more to it to impress people nowadays.

They're using their own RAGE engine developed for PS3 and XBOX360 (Table Tennis was the first game to use it). It should be a hell of a lot better than using licensing out Renderware.

I was talking in gameplay terms rather than graphically.

GTA has never had great graphics, but it has a strong sense of design to compensate.

The whole 'GTA genre' is so played out now though, that they need to do something special to not just be 'another sequel' - it'll sell, noone doubts that, but a lot of people are pinning 'omg best game evar!' hopes on it. I remember when a new Tony Hawks excited me, but now? Not so much.

They can either take the next gen transition to introduce new gameplay elements they couldn't do before (as the aforementioned Saints Row did - online and ragdoll) or they can do 'prettier graphics' and leave the core gameplay alone.

Or a combination of both.

Or something totally unique and potetnially alienate their core audience.

I just hope whatever it is that they do do with the franchise, GTA3 with shiner graphics isn't it.
