Modify jap DCcontrollers to work in an european dreamcast?

I find a guy who sold two japanese dc joypads pretty cheap, and i thought two joypads for the price of one, sweet (i didn't have thought of that they wouldn't work in my european dreamcast)

So now im wondering, is there any way to modify them to make them work for my european dreamcast?

(sorry if this has been asked before)

normal controllers should work fine with no mods (things like lightguns would not)

Yup, but i tried both of the jap controllers and non of them worked.. :/
(very stupid to change in the controller from different countries)

Does anyone else know?

seems to me that u either got ripped off or your controller port is forked...

Japanese controllers work fine with a US or UK Dreamcast!.

Sounds like youve been sold broken controllers.
