I need a laptop
I just moved into my barracks for school and need a computer. Got a laptop you want to sell or have one to recommend?

I heard those 9cell batteries are really nice. Yeah, I'm in the Marine Corps.Covar wrote:i wish i had bought a thinkpad instead of my dell. hear the battery life is much better.
hey are you in the marine corp now? i'd like some details on your time in basic.
I've heard they've got problems. My buddy is trying to get me to buy an AlienWare laptop but they look too expensive for what they are.btm4k wrote:aviod dell laptops

I have to agree. I have had my inspiron 1200 for nearly a month now and it has been great. And despite some of the reviews it has online, specs are awesome imo. And not being a "cutting-edge-gamer" the onboard graphics works great for me. I have even had it playing some relatively newer games such as The Sims 2 and Flight Simulator 2004 without breaking a sweat.Wagh wrote:I don't have any problems with my dell. I got an inspiron 9300. Pretty damn durable. I think Fathead PI was selling laptops though.. You might have to search through OT posts.
Specs:
1.4ghz Celeron M
768MB Ram
40GB HD
128MB Intel GMA 9XX graphics
Integrated MiniPCI b/g wireless
14.1" screen @ 1024x768 native res.
DVD/CD-RW combo drive
And surprisingly enough it has outperformed both desktop machines in the house in pretty much every aspect so it has become my primary general purpose machine. I pretty much take it everywhere with me except for minor stuff like trips to the store and whatnot.
My Inspiron 700m sucks for games, but its great for everything else. I can run mulitple IDE's at once and it doesn't slow down. I leave multiple applications open for days (only using sleep to turn it off and on) and it still runs fast. Its been perfectly reliable for me. I always hear people saying how crappy Dell is, but I don't see what the problem is. I've had mine for more than 9 months and I haven't had any problems. My school has Dells and they always have worked fine. I don't know, I'm not going to sit here and defend them, but as far as I've seen, I don't know why people hate them beside the fact that they are successful.

Yeah, and I thought that would help to improve their product. But after going through two bad Compaq laptops, I don't think the merger has helped them at all. There has been so many bad experiences that I've had with Compaq, that it would simply take too long to list them all. Needless to say I'll never, ever buy a Compaq product again.Wagh wrote:Arnt HP and Compaq the same company now?melancholy wrote:IMO from best to worst:
