Best games for old computers?

Post by stagg »

Well I have a pretty old computer, what good games should I get for it? Pre-old counterstrike days.

You should be able to handle most, if not all of the games he listed.

I had a 300 mhz computer with 32 meg ram, and these are the games I always played:

Diablo (haven't tried Diablo II)
Starcraft
The Sims
Quake 1 (back in the Mplayer.com days)
emulators

I can't list much because I never really played many PC games back then. Infact, I have a PC fully capable of games now but I still hardly ever play PC games.

half life 1 should run OK enough...

for the rest i agree with Q1 and Q2, unreal and UT and the likes, they are good games, starcraft is pretty nice too

but stagg, here is a suggestion, the next time you have 400 bucks and feel like blowing it on a PDA, how about upgrading your PC? 300 mhz is really dreadfully slow..... i wouldnt even want to do office/internet stuff on that thing, never mind gaming

commander keen
command and conquer: red alert

and yes, upgrade that pc, if it is your main one.

for ~220, my 1.3 ghz duron with 256 megs of pc100 ram is becoming a sempron 64 2800+ (over clocked to 2.2 ghz or so) with a gig of ram, and onboard video thats better than my current card.

Civilization II is possibly the finest Civ game of them all and is very addictive.

Considering I bought the Fallout/Fallout 2 dual pack at Deals for $1, I must agree with you.

It should be enough for office/internet stuff if you use some lightweight Linux distro, or (yuck) Windows 98.

If that is the claymation game, I agree.

I also agree with the fallout series - two of the best RPGs I've ever played!

well yeah, but i dispise win98, and im not adept enough to go all linux on a system like that, it would take me weeks to have it set up propperly

besides, any 300 mhz machine will have a ram limit, 128, maybe 256 mb ram, and that doesnt cut it for me really, seeing how i always have multiple firefox tabs open, winamp running, 256 mb is a minimum for me
