Any DVD burner will also burn normal CD-Rs, much like a normal DVD drive will read typical CDs

Yeah, make sure you use CDRs. CDRWs won't work.

However there are a very few burners that are said not to work.

As far as I know, there is no work-around for this sort of thing. If your burner doesn't burn the discs correctly, then there's nothing you can do about it.

First, though, before re-installing your old burner, I would try each of the different ways of burning images to disc.

Have you tried Nero?
Have you tried Alcohol 120%?
Have you tried DiscJuggler?
Have you tried CDRecord?
Have you tried BootDreams?

All of those methods are ways to burn your disc images onto a CD that should work in the DC. A lot of the time, Alcohol and BootDreams both work beautifully for everybody, but every once in a while they don't.

If none of those methods produces a working disc, then it is probably worthwhile to re-install your CD burner. Depending on how many other IDE drives you have on your computer, you should be able to keep both burners installed.

I said this before, but if there are DVD burners that can't burn Dreamcast discs I think we should make a working/not working DVD burner list.

The problem is that it's hard to get evidence of a confirmed not working burner...

Perhaps, but even a 'confirmed to work' list would be useful. Assuming all of this isn't a myth ofcourse.
